I have a question about acid re flux and vomiting. I had my sleeve on June 17 and my doctor had me trying to introduce food by the end of my 2nd week. I have been trying to introduce food ever since however no matter how small I cut my food or even if I eat yogurt or pudding it pushes it's way back up I cannot eat or drink or anything without it coming back up. Is this normal? I have emailed my surgeon and he just says it will work itself out but I am beginning to wonder...I take a pepicid regimen and the acid re flux is still horrible. Please help.

Does not sound normal to me. You should make an appointment with the dr. Face to face maybe he will do something to help you.

There's a thread going right now on strictures. Take a look at it.

I had a somewhat similar problem. My dr put me on Prilosec. Works great. Might ask your dr. about it. I was told the stomach produces the same amount of acid no matter the size. With a small stomach full of acid, there is no where for the food to go. Prilosec is supposed to turn off the acid production. Good Luck!

No, this is not normal. As someone above mentioned, go to the "strictures, anyone" thread under complications and you will see what some of us have experienced. Be careful that you don't let this go on too long and become dehydrated or malnourished. My husband was back in the hospital 2 times for 6 days each during the first 3 weeks b/c he couldn't get any nutrition or fluids to stay down. He was in there so he could be re-hydrated and got nutrition through IV. The rest of the story is on the other thread. Good luck and like I said, don't wait too long.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
