No game 14,437 Posted July 25, 2013 Why would he not tout something that he will get triple money on? Put band in, Take Band out, Sleeve! Come the guy has a life style to keep up with! You'd think he could afford to fix that grill then... 2 TwinsMama and Molly3 reacted to this
HatheryOnHerWay 603 Posted July 25, 2013 I notice the statistics are for 30 days out and 1 year out. That makes sense; band slips and erosions don't generally happen right away. It's convenient how they leave out any statistics past 1 year. 4 Molly3, TwinsMama, neneh_vsg and 1 other reacted to this
Canary Diamond 186 Posted July 25, 2013 I think it would be worth investigating when this commercial was made and, more importantly, who sponsored it.

No game 14,437 Posted July 25, 2013 I think it would be worth investigating when this commercial was made and' date=' more importantly, who sponsored it.[/quote'] Why Allergan of course the makers of the band! It was made a couple of months ago.. I guess with their new big name Chris Christy it seemed like a good time to let it rip! New Allergan Lap-Band commercial April 10, 2013 Allergan has a new commercial featuring George Fielding MD. Dr. Fielding is an expert New York Bariatric surgeon. 1 Molly3 reacted to this

mariamitani 405 Posted July 25, 2013 One woman I know that got the band, stopped going to get her fills after about 5 months because she couldn't take the vomiting. They could never get her fill right. She managed to keep some of the weight off, but she is still over 300 lbs and regrets the decision. Sad, My moms doc is pushing her to get the band. I tried to talk her out of it but shes the type that when you push towards something she does the complete opposite!
lsereno 2,525 Posted July 25, 2013 I didn't choose the band for myself, but not everyone has problems. One of my neighbors has it and she's done great and is happy with it. And isn't that what Sharon Osborne had? But to say it's safer is ridiculous. I agree that they use less than one year statistics to avoid issues. Just like a lot of these WLS ads tout excess weight loss, but they don't say many regain between years 3 and 6. Sheesh. lynda 1 TwinsMama reacted to this

NoneYa 380 Posted July 25, 2013 He talks about how he had the lb inserted 13 years ago. There wasn't the option for the sleeve just for the purpose of WL then was there? So many Drs are recommending pts NOT to do it the makers of the band are just trying to get some business back. 1 No game reacted to this
Macy6 356 Posted July 25, 2013 Funny, One search of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery produced this article. http://asmbs.org/201...hed-procedures/ Third sentence in.... "is as safe or safer than laparoscopic gastric bypass or gastric banding" Don't get me wrong, I am an advocate for what one feels will work for them. I know someone who has been quite successful with little to no complications with the gastric band, I know a few people who are the same with gastric bypass. My mother had a very early version of gastric banding and it nearly killed her when it closed up and they had to flight for life her 250 miles away to a specialist because our town, at the time, didn't have surgeons who dealt with that kind of issue. That was probably 10 years ago, and around 12 years post op from the original surgery, but I am fairly certain she would have adamantly been opposed to the idea of me getting lap band because of her experience. On the other hand I know someone who is quite large who had the sleeve done in January as a first step in the DS. He had a tremendous amont of complications, but he was also around 500-600#. He had a type of resistant bacterial infection that nearly killed him, and 7 months later is still in the process of wound healing. His surgeons have already said he is going to have to get the sleeve to work, because if they risk another surgery it could kill him. He has lost nearly 200# and as far as the sleeve goes is doing well. 1 No game reacted to this
Nursebarbie 392 Posted July 26, 2013 This will be the final nail in the lapband coffin. Saw that commercial and thought wow now they are really grasping at straws here. 2 TwinsMama and No game reacted to this
