Is no drinking before and after eating a forever thing?

Recommended Posts

I was told it was ok to drink 15 mins prior to eating & don't drink until 1 hour afterwards. I started doing that prior to surgery & the pre-op diet to get adjusted. Now 8 mons out & it's a really a habit now.

I was told no drinking before during and after eating. when I used to have a bowl of Breakfast Cereal, it always involved milk. So it's basically eating and drinking at the same time.

Yea.. What about cereal. Isn't that kinda like saying no Soup? You'd be drinking some milk with every bite.. If someone says no cereal I'm going to flip out!!! :(

When it comes to eating cold cereal on rare occasions I just mix about 3/4 cup of cereal and about 1/2 cup of milk and that works out fine because it's a small amount. When you have liquids with your food you become full faster. Soup and cereal is the only time that I have liquids with a meal. If I were to eat 3-4 oz of steak and try to drink I would more than likely puke and usually I have to wait about 45 mins after eating dense Protein before drinking. I prefer drinking before my meal so that I'm well hydrated.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
