help for a newbie maybe

Recommended Posts

hello! i read that you do not want others in here, but i do not know how to work this or where else to go. I am just looking for people who have gotten the lap band done. I am in the process. I know several peeps who had the other one done, but no one who has had this one. I would reallly love to meet someone who has, and learn about it from a personal point of view also. I actually may be getting it done about a month before my wedding (insurance reasons). Will I be ok for the wedding? Absolutely no drinking after? HELP PLEASE :)

This is where you should be, asking all the questions you need to. I was banded on 11/14. You should be fine for your wedding. By drinking I assume you mean alcohol. I don't really drink much so it wouldn't be fair for me to give you advice on that, but good luck and don't be afraid to ask any questions. Congratulations on your wedding.

I highly recommend NO champagne. I drank some Dr. Pepper and was miserable for a week. A nice still wine would work. All those bubbles are really a mess. Congratulations on your wedding and LBS.

Welcome--you are in the right place, the right place to ask anything you want!

I would have been fine a month out, I am sure the wedding will be fine. You should be feeling good again, losing well, and back to eating pretty normally by a month. The wedding would be good to keep your mind off of the hard time, following surgery, when liquids are your main food! It passes quickly, and is done so that you can heal. As for alcohol, I have had several drinks at different times in the last 8 months. I will occasionally have a margarita with my dinner at a favorite mexican food restaurant. The other night we were at a friends bridal shower, and they had Fuzzy Navels---I drank that without issue. I don't notice a difference in how my body reacts, I do not drink much, never did, a drink or 2 here and there, never in excess. Pretty much anything non carbonated is fine. My friend who is banded drinks vodka and cranberry juice she says. So it should be fine.

Please feel free to ask away!!! You have found a great site---with great support, and we believe fully in our bands!!!

Kat

thank you all so so much! I feel better getting responses from people who know what they are talking about, who have had it done. I keep getting advice from people who have not, which really makes no sense after I just read what I wrote! But thank you oh so much! I am gonna try and stay connected to this page, I am not to quick with these forums, but it really looks like this is a great one to be in! Thanks again!

Hi MandyKay!

Bubbles - nope. Probaly not. Alcohol? In moderation.

I could have sat at my desk job on day 4. By day 7, I was almost perky.

You ought to be just fine after a month. A full month would be best - because by then most docs will have you back to real food - but if it's only 3 weeks, you will still be ok.

Aside from the lounge, there are several other forums in LapBandTalk.com where you might get useful information.

You can either go to the "Forum Jump" bar at the bottom of this page - or you can go to the top and hit "new posts". That will bring up everything new since the last time you were on LBT.

Welcome and good luck.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
