anyone have an IUD

Recommended Posts

I have had the Mirena IUD for 18 months now. I had it placed right after my second child. I started working out hard for a year whilemy husband was deployed, thinking i could be hot stuff by the time he came home. I ate good 95% of the time and felt great so much energy. But I put on 65lbs!

I've had so many tests to figure out why i'm huge now! nothing, i'm perfectly healthy. other than being obese.

I look up weight gain with an iud online and tons and tons of people share my experience. It's insane.

so my question is, doesn anyone else have an IUD and have gained weight since having it placed?

i'm thinking of getting it removed, but i love having no period!! my friend has one for 4 years now and went from an 8 to an 18, and hasn't been able to drop 1 lb. and she works out religiously.

Wow, 65 lb gain, I think I would take it out and look into some other form of birth control:think

since hubby is deployed anyways, what's the point of having that. I'd get it out and try the ring you insert or maybe condoms.

hubby's home now.

baby #1 was Birth Contol Pill baby. got pregant anyway. baby # 2 planned, i did use the ring between the two and condoms.

I just loved having no period. I am calling tomorrow to have it removed and see what happens. back to being a real woman with a period, yuck.

I had the Mirenea IUD for like 3 1/2 years. I did enjoy not having a period, but it wasn't worth the other side effects. It was harder for me to lose weight no matter what I did. I had a lower libido, felt moodier among things. I feel so much better having it out. My periods are lighter than before Mirena. I am very glad I had it out! Weight loss was also easier after I had it out. I am glad it's out now for my weight loss with the band.

There are non-hormonal IUD's that you could try. I don't have any experience with any of them, but my mom had one and had good luck with it...

sweethot-I too would rather have a period than gain weight. I would definitely try another method of BC. I too conceived baby #1 while on the pill. It is amazing how many people do.. I then stayed pregnancy free for 5 years, using natural family planning, got pregnant with #2 on first time "trying" and NFP has been working for me since (4 years ago). My fear is that I hear after being banded, people get pregnant more easily-maybe due to hormone regulations. I am afraid that will happen to me so I am really trying to figure out what othee BC method I should use. I hate hormones, so I don't think I will use them. Maybe back to yucky condoms. I hope they have improved since I last used them in the early 90's.

I have the Mirena IUD also. No problems with weight gain and I have really, really liked it. I've had it about 2 years. About 6 months ago, I got my period back though and it is annoying!!! Man, it was convenient to not have one, no cramps, either. Some of the periods I've gotten have been long but light. Still, I'm about 90% satisfied.

I also really liked the Nuva Ring when I used it before.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
