TwinsMama 483 Posted July 24, 2013 Do what you can. I went from walking (a lot) pre-op to now 6 weeks later still not being able to hit 1 mile at one time. If you can walk a little each day, do that. Start with a time/distance and gradually increase over time. It has been frustrating for me to go from being very active to now closer to the sedentary side of exercise. But it gets better with each day. Try and see how much you can walk and set mini goals for yourself.
Malugo 31 Posted July 24, 2013 Hello, I am also 1 week post op. resting at home and just walking around the house. I really want to start going to the gym and do some cardio.
Chele H 427 Posted July 24, 2013 I just came home last night. I took 3 mini walks outside today....about 2 blocks from my house and then the 2 blocks back. It wasn't easy but I knew I had to do it. I also have a pool table in my finished basement so I walked around it about 10 times while eating a sugar free ice pop...seemed to go down very easily while upright and walking. Pixie Dust 526 Posted July 24, 2013 I was a week post op yesterday & I just did my big walk (up 6 houses & back) just walking my dog. I'm exhausted now too. :-( I hope it gets easier. I'm not driving yet either, therefore, my son is taking my husband's truck & my husband is taking my van to work so I have no wheels anyway but I'm not ready to go out in public either. I feel hungry all day long too & if I just do something simple like this morning I made scrambled eggs & toast for my oldest son & after finishing, I had to sit down cause I was all dizzy & shakey. Wonder what all that is about??
SueJH 205 Posted July 24, 2013 Everyone is different. By day 5 I was walking 1.5 miles and by day 7 walking 3 miles most days. I wasn't going very fast in the beginning, but I did get the mileage in. I now can do almost 3.8 miles in an hour on the treadmill at the gym. Just started trying to jog for 2 minutes after 5 of walking. It will come, just do what you can! Wanted to sit up so badly but the pain wouldn't let me at that point.

My opinion: walking is walking, inside or out. You may have walk around your house a dozen times but it is better than sitting
