6flags weight blaming

Recommended Posts

You guys hearing that the new trend is to say the terrible accident in Texas is being blamed on the poor woman's size? Thoughts?

What was her weight and what is the max safe weight limit per bar that holds one person in for that specific roller coaster? Media should not cast blame in this way, but we should know the numbers first.

Apparently most coasters are made for 180 ave. I don't know her weight, but based on picture she was larger. Also she expressed concern she could only "click" bar once

Blame shouldn't be placed on her weight but on those regulating the ride if it was due to her being too big ride safely. If a worker told me it only needed to be clicked once, I'd probably trust that.

Obviously 6 flags is to blame if they knew 180 is the "design" weight (they should!!!) and still let her ride. Not really a weight issue, but a safety regulation issue as Nicole stated above.

I posted earlier in the week about this death. From the images I saw, she was obese, I read an article that the restraints were designed for 180. My estimation she was over that weight. There are claims that she both said she could fit and then said she didn't think her latch clicked correctly.

Her weight is NOT the blame for this terrible accident....the ppl who strapped her in did NOT listen to her when she said it on clicked once. Personally, if it woulda only clicked once...I woulda said, "HELL NO, this didn't snap right..let me off." Its sad that even in death she has to be ridiculed about her weight. Although, it was sad Im kinda more concerned about her kids, they were sitting right behind her...their lives will never be the same!

That is awful, but probably should be expected. Another way to die from obesity. They have a witness that said she asked about being buckled in right, and the attendant blew her off. I know I should be appalled at the idea that they are blaming the victim - I know they would nothave tried to blame a thin woman.

If the ride was clearly labeled as having a 180 pound limit and she disregarded that, than she's not blameless in this. This isn't to say that the employee wasn't negligent in allowing her to ride, especially if it didn't latch correctly. However, I know I've been to amusement parks, saw a posted weight limit and didn't go on it.

Its like a double nightmare. Horrifying way to go then after you're gone everyone discusses how fat you were. Blame can be spread around but the victims here are clear.

I don't think I've ever seen a ride with a weight limit posted, but then again, I've only been to Disney & Universal. Never 6 Flags but what a tragedy & her kids were sitting behind her??????!!!! OMG OMG OMG!!!!! What a tragedy for sure & those poor kids!!!! Whether she was overweight or not, I firmly believe its the amusement parks fault for even allowing her on & then disregarding that she said her bar hadn't clicked correctly! Shame on them. At the very least the attendant should be fired & compensation made to the family but how do you put a price tag on your own mother??!! I'm so saddened!!!

Ok- I have ridden this ride my whole life. (Ok well since I have been over the height limit which took a while). I've ridden it numerous times since they re-opened it. I am not sure how they got her buckled in- and I do believe that was the cause of the terrible accident. I do believe that 6 flags is at fault. I have two good friends that were at the park with their kids the day this happened and I was supposed to be there. The thing is- it is a double edged sword- if they would have told her no she can't ride she would have been upset and there would have been backlash because 6 flags was discriminating against larger people. I've seen people well over 180lbs ride this ride and I myself have. I don't remember specifically seeing that number anywhere on the signs.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
