Weightloss and excess skin

Recommended Posts

Ok I was just sleeved on 7/16/13. I realize that my question is very early on in this process. As of today I am 304, which is down 15 pounds since the day of surgery. I am 43 years old and I have been overweight all my life. I am 5.5".

Question: what are some things, that some of you that had similar numbers, do to reduce excess skin. I don't want to lose a whole lot and then find out that I could have done something along the way that would help. I know I will have some, but I want to minimize any that I can.

Sorry to say but I don't think there is anything you can do about the loose skin. I exercise, do weight training, use a firming cream, etc...and still I have a ton of loose skin but you know what I am no longer 308 pounds and I feel great. Do my boobs sag...yup, do my legs and arms sag,,,,yup but wouldn't go back for anything in this world....loose skin and all.

Its basically your genes that determine how much excess skin you have. You can invest in all the miracle lotions, do situps till your stomach aches, and pray all you want but if your genes say you're gunna have lotso skin, you will.

Sorry. Oh and a little is your age also. The younger you are, the quicker you will bounce back...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
