Eating gets easier in a few months. You'll start to enjoy your food again eventually. It's normal to feel sad when you can't enjoy eating.

pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274; 4 month post-op 266.2; 5 month post-op 262.6

it will get better! One month is nothing. It takes time to get back to normal.

You won't be able to eat the portions you used to eat, but in time you'll be eating small amounts of whatever you want.

My brother did the sleeve before I did.. (he is reason I did it).. He had some emotional issues the 1st few months.. A little depression at not being able to when he wanted to.. He overcame those and it no longer bthers him.. He is 1.5 years post op and looks and feels great.. He has NO regrets..

I am about 9 mos post op and recall a little mental anguish at not being able to eat .. Now I am so glad I cant.. I feel normal and I am happy I no longer have to eat so much food to feel satisfied.. You will get there too! Patience :)

Eventually, you will replace the time that you spent eating with other activities. My world has gotten SOOO much bigger. I do a lot of things that I never had time for. Eating is no longer the main highlight of my day. I eat, because I have to, I now enjoy it, somewhat, but it does not have the 'hold' on me that it used to. Early on, I had to set a schedule of when to eat/drink or I wouldn't, had NO interest. You are doing fine, it's all part of the journey.

I think many of us fail to realize just how much pleasure we actually took from eating until we can't stuff ourselves anymore. I know it was a pretty big shock to me after my surgery.

Is it really that big of a shock? I haven't had mine done yet but I can't imagine not being hungry. It is just foreign to me. I'm afraid is what I am. Afraid that I will screw this up somehow like I've done with everything else I've tried to lose weight.

The shock to me wasn't so much that I liked to eat; I mean, I knew I liked the flavors and whatnot. I didn't realize just how pleasure I got from eating large QUANTITIES of food, and being able to finish my whole plate. That's what came as the biggest surprise to me.

I am starting to enjoy food again at 7 months...just not as much as I used to. It isn't the same enjoyment as pre sleeve though.

I agree with you.

Eating is going to be a pain in the ass chore that I don't have time to deal with. I no longer have a choice.

So something so human like enjoying is gone I've accepted that.

Good thing I have enough else to keep me busy, and after this much living hell there be some weight loss with this much f**king sacrifice.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
