MGLAW142 10 Posted July 23, 2013 I was just wondering how long from your first appointment does it take to actually get your surgery ????

Lurpa 20 Posted July 23, 2013 Depends on your insurance and what they require *unless your self pay* Mine was 3.5 months from first apt to surgery.
TcsSleeveJourney 16 Posted July 23, 2013 I dont have mine scheduled yet... I've already had to get a heart Dr. approval, lung Dr. approval, my primary Dr. approval, my sleep Apnea approval, and a Pshyc Elvaluation... Thought it was gonna be finished yesterday... But was told today that I have to redo it by a different one so that appt. is July 30. Then they will make my appt to see my Surgeon. I'm not sure what they will make me do... I started all this the beginning of May So it's a lil time consuming

SueJH 205 Posted July 23, 2013 Went to the informational meeting I think at the end of November and started my classes jan/feb. Got my call at the end of April and had surgery June 10th. I actually got through the process pretty quickly for some reason. There are people in the group I go to each month that have been waiting up to a year. Some even over a year. As mentioned above, it depends on your insurance and if the hospital has a program for you to go through.

Teachamy 1,042 Posted July 23, 2013 My process was very fast compared to others in my area. I went to an info. meeting in Feb., began classes in May-June (3) had 3 appointments with the social worker in May, had a gallbladder ultrasound in June, met the dietician in July. Met the surgeon, also in July, and I am scheduled for surgery July 31. The surgeon in our area tells prospective patients to expect a year from the info. session to surgery.because the pre-op preparation is so intensive. Patients over a 40 BMI are required to lose 10% of their body weight as well. It definitely depends on your program and your insurance pre-op requirements. Good luck! TcsSleeveJourney 16 Posted July 23, 2013 That is a lot of testing. Is that typical? I'm new @ all of this so I don't know... My seminar was in May and they told me a list of what I had to do... And I changed drs bcuz on top of everything I jus said I had to do... They required ALOT more things and I wanted to cut the time out... So this Dr I'm goin to now only requires what I listed above... Sent from my iPhone using VST

SueJH 205 Posted July 23, 2013 For my program we had to get a physical, meet with the dietician, meet with the psychologist, attend 6 weeks of behavioral medicine classes to show that you are working on changing the behaviors that got us to this point. The physical may show things that need adjustment. For me my Vitamin D and potassium were low so I needed to get those up a bit. After the 6 weeks of classes we are required to attend monthly meetings until you get the approval. The team meets once a month to discuss potential patients. Like I said, I was lucky and went through pretty quickly.
