Slice of pizza

I am 7 weeks post op and was able to eat a slice of pizza is that normal?

Crust and all?

How long did it take you? Thin crust or thick? heavy meats or just cheese? how big of a slice? It's hard to say if that's normal or not, depending on the size of the slice. And how did you feel afterwards? Uncomfortable or just satisfied? Personally, I wouldn't be worried if it was only one slice you could get down... I used to be able to put away 4 slices (thick crust, loaded combo pizza) before my sleeve, sometimes 5 depending on how long we sat there. I am just starting mushies and soft Proteins this week and on Sunday, our bowling league is having a pizza party. I have no idea what I'm going to do... maybe just eat the top off of one piece?

Normal? I guess it depends on the person...

I've not tried to eat a whole slice of pizza.

Though I'm sure I could! (I'm nine months out)

But at seven weeks out I'm sure some can and some can't and some don't.

At nine months out I can eat 1 slice of thin crust pizza, though I normally choose not to, and if I do I can not eat anything else. That's MY normal, we all have a diff normals, and choose diff things for what we will and won't eat.

I will be 7 weeks out this coming Monday and I wouldn't even attempt to have a slice of pizza yet for a variety of reasons. Whether or not it is normal depends on who you are talking to. What would your surgeon or NUT say about having a slice of pizza? If they are okay with it, then that is great that you are able to tolerate it.

As for myself, I would be very nervous and scared that I would start to fall into the same habits that got me in this position to begin with. I personally need much more time to help ingrain more healthy habits and food choices before I would be comfortable trying some of the foods I enjoyed before.

Can't say I even desire eating pizza. maybe the cauliflower crust one when I get to goal. It's probably best to avoid such high calorie filled foods until you are in maintenance stage or you're going to defeat the purpose having VSG. Think healthy.

So.... No, in my book it's not normal to eat an entire slice.. Whether you can.. I guess that's up to you

I can eat a entire piece of pizza, usually go for smallest piece and depending on toppings and size I can eat...but not always. I can usually eat a entire taco to, but again depending on how big and loaded it is. I can eat half a burger usually..but these are all foods that are not the best for you... in most cases. Healthier recipes are out there...I do notice I can eat more now at 4 mo then at 2mo but still usually 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup so not a lot.

My RD recommends that people make their own pizza using the lite Flat-Out flat bread, which is low in carbs, high in Fiber, and has a good amount of Protein. I believe she crisps up the flat "bread" in the over first and then adds a little Tomato sauce, cheese and protein. It's not something that necessarily appeals to me but it's a good substitute if you really have a hankering for pizza--and you could work it into a low-carb/high protein way of eating. I think you could probably eat about 1/3 to 1/2 of those at your stage post op but it depends on the person. One strict rule my surgeon has is that once you are on solids (after 6 weeks), you can eat for 15 to 20 minutes and that's it. Anything you didn't finish in your meal gets put away or tossed. Sometimes when people say they are eating something like half a sub or a piece of pizza it's because they nibbled away at it for 45 minutes or an hour. That goes beyond a meal and qualifies as grazing. It's also important not to drink with or right after your meals or food will get washed down your stomach and you will feel hungrier sooner.

the sleeve is only a tool for us and we have to make good decisions, its probably not normal for someone to eat pizza that so early out but hey sometimes you have to make choices. I am 10.5 months out and had my first slice about 2 weeks ago for my son's birthday it tasted so good but then I thought this is what got me here to begin with , why didnt I get a salad or take the toppings off and eat just that..... so again its choices , I wouldnt make a habit of it ...

I find that I can eat more and more as the time goes on so I try to measure my food and or buy food in certain oz so I know i will not over do this. anyhow good luck to you and try not to make it a habit .

I got the sleeve because it is a tool to help me control the amount of food I eat and it helps monitor me by helping me deal with my food addiction...by limiting the amount of food I am able to take in...

Eating a slice of pizza is not a bad thing...We can all make better choices and for the most part we do....I can think of way worse stuff to eat then a slice of pizza...I know I can eat a 1/8th of a 12 in. pizza/ but that is it....

I did this not to become obsessed with food in a different way but to eat what I need to survive....I am not doing this to be an all natural, all organic girl. I want to not have to think about it all the time and find special food for me to eat. I want to be normal in size and thinking....

I personally have decided for myself that I will not eat refined sugar in any form...That is about it....I will eat a little of what ever I feel like eating that day....

Since my surgery there are foods that I no longer find appealing.....so I don't eat them.....I eat what I want in a 1 cup size..So far it is working for me....

It could have been a huge fudge sundae...but it was pizza......the best junk food you can eat because it has everything in it. I was told this by a dietitian when I was pregnant with my first child....

I am so happy with my new way of looking at food......Most of the time I don't think about it at all..Before it was a constant thought as to what I was going to eat.......And making sure I made enough so I would be full....How I have changed!

I've eaten one medium piece of pizza. I didn't die. It was a special lunch with a friend, and it's the only piece of pizza I've eaten since being sleeved. I'm in no rush to do it again. I think you just have to know yourself well enough to know whether its going to set you into a spiral of bad eating or not.

After reading this post it made me want pizza, lol! So I went out got some cauliflower and made this cauliflower crust pizza, let me tell you it was amazing. I was super satisfied with 1 piece. I loaded it with Protien, veggis and little cheese. Made a pesto sauce to put on it. Just saying when your ready to try pizza the auliflower crust one is good and my piece was about 110 calories and 12g Protein.

At 8 weeks i got a stromboli when my ceo wanted to go for pizza near the office. I ate the cheese , sauce and meat and a few bites of crust. This was about 1/5th of the whole. I lost over 2 lbs that week and it was fine. The odd thing is i would much rather have had some chicken or any Protein. Have not had any stromboli or pizza since. I will if the mood srikes but i am not like iused to be thats for sure. If i had not tried a little i would have wondered about it aa long time. Now i just have a nibble of this and that but always keep my thoughts on getting. some tasty protein and enough Water. An occasional snack seems to work well for me.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
