Yikes! Something's stuck in my throat and it isn't a frog!

Recommended Posts

I took two Tylenol yesterday because I twisted my back in a swim class and now I am back on liquids for 3 days per my doctor's orders. I think the pills are stuck, or WERE stuck and they irritated my throat so bad they feel as if they are still there. It hurts to yawn, swallowing is horrible and I refuse to eat anything solid because if I sneeze I feel as if something has jabbed me in the throat. Burping is the worst because it feels as if it is pushing on whatever is in there and then it throbs.

IT HURTS!! I can get a Protein Shake down just fine so the doctor isn't worried yet, but the NP actually told me to go get a milk shake and drink a small amount of it to reduce swelling and possibly push the pill down if it is still in there.

Well hell!! That sucked. ;)

Let's hope it goes down soon, because my next move is onto hot liquids to dissolve it.

Anyone else ever have this?

I haven't had this, but when I was in the hospital many of the staff and nurses had had variations of weightloss surgery and more than one person told me they keep meat tenderizer with them at all times. A teaspoon mixed with a little Water will dissolve most anything that's stuck with nearly immediate results. I haven't had this happen yet, but I keep a tiny container of it in my car and purse just in case :)

I once had a pill get stuck in my esophagus pre-sleeve which caused a small erosion - it hurt like nobody's business. I couldn't really eat or drink, and finally had to go to the doc to get liquid lidocaine for the pain. Needless to say, it's an experience I don't care to repeat, so I'll probably be crushing any pills I may need to take 'till the cows come home. Hope you feel better soon!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
