Awesome Support

About taxes, I called my accountant before the surgery for advice on how to pay for the surgery (use savings as opposed to financing). He told me to document the kilometers travelled, and all receipts pertaining to the surgery, Dr appointments, hotel receipts, meal receipts etc. All of which can be used to claim for income tax purposes. Not sure if it's a provincial of federal law but anything over 3% of your gross income is tax deductable.

Hi everyone, I'm a wannabe bandster and have been lurking around the site for the last little while. I've met some of you in other posts already and am glad to meet the other wannabe's that are lurking. I just want to reiterate what a few others have already said about the support on this forum and the quality of information - it is excellent! Many of my questions have been answered and there is always something new that pops up I never thought of. Thank you to everyone - a great collective knowledge base.

:clap2: :first: :) :)

Hi guys, I'm new to this site. Just thought I'd join in since I'm starting Optifast Jan 24 too. Won't it be nice to know there will be a little gang of us? Getting banded Feb 7 with Dr. Coburn. I think I will have my optifast in big glasses with little umbrellas and feed my family eveything I hate for two weeks.(joking ofcourse) I really like to remember that it is temporary though because after optifast comes Clear Liquids and yummy mushy food. How tasty! Good luck to all of us and maybe we can gain stenth from each other.:)

Welcome, Welcome!!

Holy, I cannot keep track of all the new bandsters, too much for my little brain!!! It's great though.

All new bandsters should put there surgery date and surgeon on there signature, so old people like me can keep track!!

That is good to know. I am pretty sure that this would fall under federal law.

Hi everyone - all the newbies including abSteph, Astrotoes. I know what you mean Astrotoes by your "Oh my God, what am I doing" days. I have had many of those. I have to say though, that with the help of everyone on this board (even though they don't know how much they have helped me) I am absolutely certain at my core that the Band is the right WLS method for me. I get banded Feb 7 with Dr. Coburn too. I steeling my mind for the Optifast diet:biggrin1: . Jan 24 I start chugging that stuff and am willing to hold my nose and down it all at once if I have to. Good luck everyone who is a bandwannabe.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
