Astrotoes,

Are you a Dr. Coburn patient? If so, I was reading the pre-op package last night again, and it did mention coffee as something you could have. Just not cream or sugar. Splenda if you must.

I have to start Optifast on Wednesday, and I know there are a buch of hear that start this week or next. There will be plenty of us going through it in the near future.

Andrew

I had to be on Opti-fast for 3 weeks, I could not have coffee because I drink mine with cream. I'd rather not drink it at all if I have to drink it black. But let me tell ya, that 1st cup of coffee after surgery, it was better then.....well, you know!!! it was great!!!

Who all starts there pre-surgery diet THIS week????? There's so many new people here, Ive lost track.

Good Luck to you guys, remember 'ONLY TEMPORARY' !!!!

Andrew, when Dr. C told me 3 weeks I thought he handed me a death sentence. I kept thinking '3 WEEKS', I cant do weight watchers for 3 days!!! I had to totally pysch myself up. I counted out the exact number of pouches I needed, lined them up in the cupboard, put 63 post-it stickys up on my cupboard, and everytime I drank my meal I would rip it down, rip it up and look at the cupboard to watch the postys getting less and less. I guess, for me it helped to see the 'visual', to see I was making progress. I had a wicked headache day 2-3. I tried eating celery just to feel my teeth chew, but I found not eating anything was better.

I got to tell ya, it was not easy. But it wasnt as hard as I thought either. I think the anxiety of knowing I had to do it was worse, besides the huge reward at the end was totally worth it!!!

Good Luck to you, check in here often, that really helps!!

Thanks for sharing,it's great to know that people made it through....and lived to talk about it.I start Wed. and find it hard to believe I can do this,my body gets really shaky when I don't eat for a while so I'm hoping the Optifast helps with that.Cloe did you tell your friends and family...were they supportive?

Hey guys

I start tomorrow the yogurt and cottage cheese, except I don't eat cottage cheese, so that is a whole lot of yogurt! I just got a cold so I hope it will help me stay on this 10 days of hell ! My surgery is Feb 2

Best of luck to all of you commencing your pre-op diets!! Remember, as Cloe said....tis only temporary!! The biggest thing for me: take it ONE day at a time (ONE MEAL at a time if you have to). I couldn't look at the big picture (2 weeks in my case) or I would lose it! That and also as cloe said, the anxiety of "screwing up" and then defeating the purpose of it for the surgery.

You can DO IT!!! If we all did it, you can!!! Yup...reallllllly tough, but worth it in the long run!!! One day you will be here saying the same thing to someone about to start their pre-op diet!

:gluck:

Hey Guys,

Good luck to all of you starting the Pre-diet..... I'm sure you will all do fine.

I'm going for my second fill tomorrow and let me tell you.... I have been eating..So, I hope that I feel some kind of restriction soon.

Yoda/Cloe, Is it normal to gain a couple of pounds since my first fill? I'm up 2 pounds, and I know why.... I have been eating...... It's so HARD!!!!'

Have a great week,

Doriana

Starting my Pre-Opt diet this Friday. I can't believe how fast the time has gone. This week I have all my Dr's appointments for bloodwork and all of that so I should be ready for my surgery in a few weeks.

I am really looking forward to starting a new chapter in my life. A little nervous but mostly excited.

That sounds like a good idea. I am not too worried about the pre-op diet, in fact I have been looking forward to it (I must be some sort of sadist). I have been hitting the farewell tour pretty hard, and feel like crap for all the garbage I have been eating. BRING IT ON!!!

Andrew I have been feeling the same way. I have been looking at the box of Opti fast for a month now and I have just been waiting for the start date. I am sure I will regret this impetuous nature of mine when it begins and I get grossed out at the thought of another shake, but for right now I eagerly await Friday. I think it really boils down to once I start the diet I will know this is real and that it is happening and then in no time it will be time for the surgery.

As for delighting in eating while I can lets just say I am trying to get in all my favourites now, and Thursday night you can find me eating one of my favourite meals at Red Lobster for my last supper. :o

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
