Surgery Wednesday, Work Monday

Recommended Posts

I am having my surgery on Wednesday the 24th (2 days) and have to return to work on Monday. I typically sit unless i have to attend a meeting in which I will drive to, walk inside and sit again. Can you guys tell me what I should be prepared for and how I can better deal with this situation? Thank you.

Well good luck to you. If you need pain medication, you might be up the creek without an paddle.

Those meds make you sleepy and you shouldnt drive.

I had my surgery on a Wednesday like you and on Monday, I just started to feel decent.

My doctor said two weeks off work and I pretty much have an desk job as well.

I know that on Thursday and Friday after discharged, I pretty much slept.

Honestly, stay home

I would try to start the following Monday if you can. That soon post-op you can get unexpected diarrhea, you're tired, and you need to be focusing on you and staying hydrated and having Protein Shakes, etc. I did start doing some work a few days after surgery but I work from my home office. I really wished I had been able to take at least 2 weeks off, and I have a desk job.

I had the sleeve done on a Monday, and I was working by the end of the week - and feeling pretty good doing it! However, I do work primarily from home, so it gives me a little more flexibility (I can take a nap if I need to do so during the day). But for me, recovery was not too bad. Just remember that everyone is DIFFERENT - some people feel fine to go back to work the next day, and some people need a couple of weeks off.

Hi!

Everyone is different, and reacts differently to surgery. I was sleeved on a Tuesday and went back to the office on Monday. More healing time is always better, but I don't regret going back when I did. I had a very smooth recovery, no real pain, just some tenderness. I did make sure to stay well hydrated, keep my shakes handy and get up and walk a few times an hour. I wore very loose clothing so I was comfortable. I was off pain med the day I came home, so they were well out of my system and I was able to drive. That being said, I only work a short distance from home and only had to go on local roads. I don't know that I would have felt comfortable driving highway speed. Turning was an issue and I'm sure my reflexes were not 100% ( I took that into consideration and was very careful and left plenty of commuting time)

I was slightly more fatigued than usual after the day and went to bed much earlier,, but other than that I felt fine.

I let my boss know that I would have to play it by ear the first few days and that if need be, I would leave and do some work from home.

Best of luck to you on Wednesday! Keep us posted!

I was sleeved on a Wednesday, and returned to work the following Wednesday. I sit at a desk all day, and other than being tired at the end of the first day - I had no problems.

Good Luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
