losing friends

Recommended Posts

It seems I have lost a bunch of friends since having surgery.... do you think it is related to it? I have not changed in personality just in appearance... and all the friends that I have lost or am losing are pretty and skinnier than me? Do you guys think it relates? and has this happened to you since the band?

I don't want to sound rude, but maybe they were using your size to feel better about themselves? I had a friend that only hung around with fat girls, she always had to be the thinnest, prettiest, best dressed. When I started losing weight she drifted away. I bumped into her recently and she commented that I was much thinner than her. I invited her to lunch and she declined, saying she wasn't "fixed-up" enough. (we were at the post office) In reality I was well dressed and thinner than her. I didn't make her feel like she was the prettiest, or getting the most attention so she didn't want to go. It's sad that she needs to feel that way, but it's true, I'm not the only one to see it with her either. ~Mandy

My sister, who has always been considered prettier and thinner than me has been acting strangely around me...complaining about being fat, not wanting to go out...I have always been bigger than her, but she has always been more insecure...and I think she is afraid I will look better than her, and she wont get all the attention anymore//(I have always been outgoing, but the "chubby" one)..whatever...its about me now...:clap2:

yeah well i was thinking this too! They have always told me how pretty I was in the face... and they would halfheartedly support weight loss attempts and they were very suporting of the band suprisinglybut after i lost like 30 pounds they ran off

I have has this happen. When I was at my highest weight I had a group of friends I was tight with. They were all far thinner than me, but not skinny.

They were thrilled for me when I started losing, sort of ho-hum when I got to their weight, and now that I am much thinner than they are, they only talk to me if they have to (although they were happy to pick through the clothes that no longer fit me)

I was their token "fat friend" and when I no longer fit that role, there was no place for me in that circle. I have since made a lot of new friends, and renewed old friendships. I believe some things are for the best.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
