I'm getting discouraged.

Recommended Posts

I ate half a strip of bacon today! I'm only 4weeks out from surgery come July 22. I feel so bad. I'm getting so discouraged. My surgery weight was 199 lbs. At 2 weeks out I was down to 175 lbs. Well the scale has stopped moving and I'm now 4 weeks out come july 22. I don't want to start eating The wrong things because I've stopped losing weight. Help!!!

You haven't stopped losing weight, you are just stalled out, which happens to almost every single person in weeks 3-4, and sometimes even longer. As long as you continue focusing on your Protein and fluids and getting in your daily walk, you will be fine! Don't get discouraged. An occasional treat of your favorite food is fine, as long as it is just a bite or two and does not become a daily habit.

Nearly everyone goes through that, Shellbell333, including myself. If you look at my signature below you will see that the fat eventually came off.

The body doesn't care about your schedule, it's complex systems start and stop weight loss for an equally complex variety of reasons. Do the right things, it will come off. Discouragement adds stress, stress slows weight loss. Relax and enjoy the journey.

Half a strip of bacon!? Good lawd, girl, why are you so stressed about that?! It's good protein! I'm one of the sleevers that firmly believes in NOT dieting for the rest of my life. I generally track my Protein, drink my Water and take my vitamins...that's it! The weight will continue to come off...even after eating half a strip of bacon.

You started out as a lightweight--the weight probably isn't going to come off as quickly as it would for say, someone like me with a high starting BMI. I think you're doing great. Just stick with your guidelines, and you'll be just fine :)

Dude, bacon is awesome and it's Protein. Unless it's forbidden by your plan I don't see an issue. I eat it all the time!

Gmanbat is right, as usual. You don't get to control your rate of loss. I learned this the hard way. If the scale gets you down too much, start weighing weekly. Weighing daily is important in maintenance but in loss phase it gives too many people the expectation to see a drop every single time they step on the scale. It isn't going to happen that way. I'm trying to shed my last few baby pounds and even knowing this can get completely ticked when the scale bounces five pounds overnight because I exercised strenuously the night before.

Relax, really. It'll all be fine. And remember that bacon is good. A diet of only bacon wouldn't be (too much sodium and fat) but it's a perfectly acceptable choice post op if you keep it under control.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
