Sleeved 7/19 need some advice..

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow Sleevers! I am home and trying my best to drink as much as I can.. I have only been able to get an ounce of Water, Protein, and hot liquids down at one sitting.. The pain I have after drinking pretty much sucks.. I haven't been able to get any of the gas out of my belly..not burping or farting! I have however been walking ALOT and that doesn't seem to help.. Any advice on things I could try to release some of this discomfort? Thanks

You should probably contact your surgeon if you are not releasing gas out of your body within the next day or two. I was unable to while in the hospital but I was able to by day 4 following surgery. Are you on pain meds?

I just had my sleeve on the July 16th (last Tues) and finally am feeling some relief from gas pain today. I finally sent hubby out for some stool softeners yesterday so I could potty - that helped tremendously. Have you tried Gas X? I take the Walmart brand ones in cherry chewables. They work decently.

I'd luv to have some relief from the actual pain of the surgery however. It hurts worse than any of my previous surgeries (knee, back, foot, gallbladder)

I had my surgery on the 15th. I still have some gas. I talked to my Dr.'s nurse and she said that

it was normal to have gas for up to a week after surgery. As for the pain when drinking...I had to take baby sips...and she said that will get better too. I go tomorrow for my first visit to see my Dr after my surgery.

Yesterday I didn't drink enough liquids and I could tell, So today I have sipped , sipped , sipped.

I was sleeved on the 16th. Today after sipping warm chicken broth i had the strangest sensation. On the left side, below the large incision where the stomach was pulled through i felt a rolling movement. It actually felt like the movement of a very active fetus! It shocked me. I realized of course that it was a large gas bubble rolling around but it was so weird! Kind of creepy feeling really. Maybe this is something other people have felt before but i haven't. It went on a few hours the dissipated. This evening i was sipping warm broth again and the same thing happened. This time i popped a Gas-X strip on my tongue and it was gone in 2 minutes. I even had a huge burp and i didn't even know i needed to. I swear by those Gas-X strips now!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
