So I was sleeved July 17th. I am scheduled to be on Clear Liquids until Wednesday the 24th. I've been drinking Powerade Zero, Water, diluted grape juice and chicken broth. I'm so SICK of these liquids. Thinking about broth literally makes me gag. I'm starving and feel empty. Which in turn is making my stomach feel sick. I'm feeling helpless and discouraged. I'm trying to keep a positive attitude, but it sure gets hard. The whole 'everyday it gets easier' is easier said than done. Any suggestions for other clear liquid options that are perhaps more filling? Any words or wisdom or encouragement? Help!!!

Keep sipping ALL day. I found that to help me that I was at least doing something. I can't say for sure, but I have a feeling your hunger is in your head more than anything, and we all totally get that. Are you also driving Protein drinks (Isopure or Syntrax nectar - clear liquids) if not the Protein in them will at least help you with energy. It's only a week - that is what I told myself. I also gave myself permission to nap a lot (which helped the time pass LOL)

Don't think any of my suggestions are very good, but just wanted to try to encourage you. Keep on keepin' on. You'll be okay. {{hugs}}

Thank you. Napping is nice. Surgeon said not to go on any Proteins til second week. It is only a week, I do have to keep reminding myself that. Feels like the longest week of my life! Lol! Thanks for the suggestions.

Is it a clear liquid diet or an all liquid diet? I know I was on a clear liquid diet in the hospital but was on a full liquid when I went home.

This is the first time I'm hearing no Protein for the first week. My clear liquids for the first 2wks was mostly Protein Drink and everything else followed. I would even blend my Protein Drinks with fruits and thin it out with milk to make it more exciting. The broth and Jello I had was from the hospital stay and ended once I was discharged. Hope you find more recipes/options to make you happy. This too shall pass and you will upgrade to purée. Good luck.

OP please check with your doctor that they say no Protein clear liquids for the first week. That is surprising to me. And if that is what the doctor wants, then follow their regime. But there are clear liquid Proteins out there if you are allowed.

That first week is crazy hard :/ I was able to start drinking the clear liquid Proteins as soon as I got home from the hospital. So it might be worth a call to make sure you are totally understanding their plan. sugar free Popsicles and Jello helped me. Unfortunately, that clear liquid phase is a part of the process you just have to get through. I remember feeling crazy hungry that first week, now I have to set a timer to eat otherwise the day goes by and I've hardly eaten a thing. Just hang in there and know this too shall pass!

my mom made chicken Soup with potatoes and she mashed one up so finely it was like a mashed potato in the broth. the feeling of the fine potato and the broth made me think i was eating even tho i wasn't. i did that the last two days of the liquid diet.< /p>

Get some beef broth and cook fresh onions and fresh garlic in it til both are soft.......Then strain the onions and garlic out and try that......the taste of it will be different and it's really good...

My doc also said no Protein. I tried to drink one just so I can have some variety but it came right but up. Never thought I would ever look forward to purée food

      I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
