Verticle sleeve stent

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved March 30th and havent really felt all that great since... I had good days and bad days.. Been to the ER several times for IV fluids for dehydration... Im not here to scare or negative talk the sleeve at all.. I eventually started having bad shoulder pain.. My primary wrote it off as skeletal.. I went to my post op surgeon said all was fine.. 3 weeks later I wound up in ER by ambulance for shoulder pain... Found out I had a severe lung infection as well as pneumonia.. Dating back to March 30th I had a leak of a small whole in my esophagus... I was operated on for the lung infection intebated in icu for 2 weeks before they even found the leak... I have no recollection of anything other then calling 911... I only remember waking up with severe hallucinations and loss of time... And 2 weeks... I was stented on July 8th released from the hospital today.. 1 month and 2 days later.. I feel awful have an over abundance if saliva that im constantly spitting or vomiting... Im scared in pain and hurts to drink or eat but I have to, to prevent dehydration... Again this doesnt happen often nor does it usually be found 3 months later... If anyone has had a stent, support or help please share with me... Im scared to death and dont get much support by family... Im told " you chose this surgery"

I'm so sorry for your pain and rough (understatement I know) start!

Leaks are a very scary and very real possibility with this surgery no matter how great your surgeon is and how well you follow aftercare instructions. I know we have several members that have gone through similar experiences,

I hope that one of them will see this and answers.

Many prayers of health nd healing to u. Im sorry that I can not impart anything medically helpful about the stent. I am presleeved. But I will pray for u in my daily prayers nd talks w Him. You r obviously a strong nd resilient person bc u r still here, so God has gr8 plans for u! Just take it easy nd don't let the silly naysayers bring u farther down! How dare they say it was your choice to go thru such misery...U CHOSE TO HAVE A HEALTHIER LIFE VIA WLS, U DIDNT ASK FOR THE BAD CIRCUMSTANCES which have occurred, such ASSESS to say such and I apologize for them! God bless you nd keep ur head high:)). {{{Hugs}}} nd prayers, Dee Dee.

I currently have a leak, my Dr said that a stent should only be used as a last ditch effort! He said they are horribly dangerous and very painful.

I'm not a doctor but I think once you get past this hurdle and everything is healed you should be risk free for another leak.

How dangerous? A drain didnt work because ive had it unnoticed for almost 3 months and it already caused a severe lung infection and pneumonia from bacteria and to let it heal on its own would likely cause death

I really hope I stay leak free... My surgeons team member put the stent in and told me even through all if this, WLS was the right decision... I dont see that now but I hope to

Maybe I should rephrase.. Its a small hole in my esophagus, they call it a leak but I thought a leak was staple leaks

Try getting in contact with jasleeve. She isn't in here much, but maybe send her a pm.

She went through a leak as well and had a stint put in. She is quite a was out and doing well last I saw. She might be able to provide some support for you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
