Fiddleman 4,376 Posted July 21, 2013 Thanks girls for providing different answers on my question above. Now that we have an abundant set of answers on that, let's get back to the original topic of this thread: long term fitness goals. Throw them out there, no matter how outlandish or impossible they seem. There is power behind sharing them and writing them down. Cheers! 1 Taradawn15 reacted to this

MGLAW142 10 Posted July 23, 2013 I'm not sleeve yet I go to my first appointment Aug 7th and am super excited. My goals are to get sleeved and once the weight is off I would love to actually take my children to a Water park without being made fun of. I would also like to start out doing a 5k and work my way up to a 15k run. Most of all I'd like to look beautiful in a wedding dress when my husband and I renew our wedding vows on our ten yr anniversary. 2 Fiddleman and ejsfanatic reacted to this
KayDeeH 8 Posted July 24, 2013 My goals are more modest' date=' but I am definitely becoming more excited about them: 1. Continue with my workouts and build up my endurance & strength 2. Finish the Couch to 5k program 3. Be comfortable running on a regular basis 4. Get up the nerve to enroll in martial arts training 5. Climb a rock wall These probably don't seem like a big deal to most people, but I've NEVER run before, I'm incredibly intimidated by the thought of participating in martial arts, and I'm terrified of heights. So all of these are stretch goals for me! But I think I might actually be able to do them![/quote'] Martial Arts is so much fun, don't be afraid of it! I've been doing Tae Kwon Do for the past 4 years and have loved it! Even when I was at my highest weight of 270, it was great! My goals are- 1. Run a 5k 2. Get my blackbelt in TKD (I'm a red belt now, so only two more belts to go!) 3. Get stronger (tight arm and leg muscles...or is that what you would call "cut" or "ripped"? I'm so uncool). 4. Run a 10k Since I live in Track Town USA (Eugene, Or), there is always some sort of "run" going on around here. I've never enjoyed running until now. I've been using the C25K program for the past 5 weeks, but am stuck on week 3 and I can barely make it to 3 min straight. But I'm gonna keep trying!! Sent from my iPhone using VST 1 Fiddleman reacted to this
Taradawn15 148 Posted July 24, 2013 I am so excited about finally actually feeling confident making long term fitness goals so I am going to start with a YYYAAAAAAAYYYYY to all of us! 1. Make it through my spin and circuit class without feeling like I'm going to die! 2. Build strength in core 3. Work on endurance 4. Run a 5k in dec 2013 5. 3 marathons in 2014 6. Train for triathlon 7. Complete at least 2 triathlons 8. Coach my daughters soccer team again! 1 Fiddleman reacted to this

getlownurse 105 Posted July 24, 2013 Short term- join a boxing gym. Long term- be super crazy fit like the hardcore boxing chicks. Those defined arm muscles, the endurance, the sweat. - also want to kiteboard a ton more but this is contingent on moving to the beach (I'm an hour and a half drive away now) 1 Fiddleman reacted to this
suejersey 263 Posted July 24, 2013 I have becoming very inspired by the "high" I get from sweating! I don't have many goals about big things but I know I want to: 1. Strengthen my core. 2. Strengthen my legs 3. Tighten my butt 4. Gain flexibility 5. Try and firm up my triceps as much as possible 4. Keep sweating! 1 Fiddleman reacted to this
maharet111 544 Posted July 24, 2013 I have another one too. I want to do an unassisted pull up...I think this one will be like in 2015 haha 3 Butterthebean, aroundhky and Fiddleman reacted to this
Fiddleman 4,376 Posted July 24, 2013 I have another one too. I want to do an unassisted pull up...I think this one will be like in 2015 haha I hear you. Unassisted pull ups are hard. However, it will be so rewarding when you do the first one. And then 5, 10, 15 and so on. It is still my weakest body weight exercise, but practice makes perfect. When I was working on this myself, I found that ring pull-ups helps build the upper body strength. Handstand or military pushups will help also. There is a book on Amazon that caught my eye called "50 pull-ups in 7 weeks" this might be like c25k program where it is progressive, one day at a time. I am going to keep practicing this right along side you until I no longer call the pull-up my weakest exercise 2 maharet111 and aroundhky reacted to this
mark! 449 Posted July 24, 2013 I have a few goals I've been mulling around. Before surgery I competed at the USPSA Powerlifting Nationals, it's an invite (qualify) only competition with THE best lifters in the U.S. I competed in the Super Heavyweight (+308) and in the 308 weight class. I placed usually middle of the pack in both weight classes. In 2015, I'd like to earn my invite back and compete in the 242 weight class, with my current lifting numbers weighing 285 right now, if I can maintain my strength, I'd have real good success in the 242 weight class. I also want to compete in the Texas Police Games and place first in the state at the 242 weight class, which would be a 2 weight class drop. My overall goal is to get down to the 220's and keep most of my strength up, while building my cardio and speed abilities. 1 Fiddleman reacted to this

Awesome goal and that would really be a monumental achievement. My guess is that being in the 242 weight range would make the process of winning that much more challenging because a lot of champions weigh in that class. I know nothing about powerlifting or the segmentation of weight in the sport, but it would seem 240-245 is at the top of the Gaussian distribution of athletes in this sport. What do you think? kmed21 41 Posted July 24, 2013 I want to run. I have never been able to run properly. Run... I want to dive back into SCUBA, pun intended.. Play sports with our kids.. And look lean... 2 Fiddleman and MGLAW142 reacted to this
sguer56 12 Posted July 25, 2013 There are several things I would love to do that I've never done because I'm too fat: 1. Run a 5k, and eventually a 10k 2. Skiing 3. Parasailing 4. Hiking up a mountain 5. Do a pull-up (or 5, or 20) I'm also looking forward to ice skating and bike riding with my son... It's been over 20 years since I've done either of those things. These seem very trivial compared with everyone else's big dreams... 1 Fiddleman reacted to this

It's a double edged sword. On one hand, locally I would excel because around here, the local talent in 242 isn't what it should be. On a national level like you said, there is a large group of awesome talent, but when you look at it again, there is also a large group of superb, STRONG competitors in the 308 weight class. I guess it could all even out, around here in the DFW area, 308's are all beasts. You have guys benching 600 pounds raw, which I simply just can't compete with. My only hope is if they're a bench specialist and don't deadlift or squat, then I can beat them by total in the end.
