I have not been sleeved yet but I often sit and think about how much different my food choices are going to be at home for me and my family after being sleeved. I not only want to eat healthier and smaller portions but I want them to as well. I think its so important to teach kids while they are young not to overeat and the make healthy food choices. (married and mother of 2 boys 9&3) I try to cook healthy meals and my kids eat veggies and fruits like they should but they also eat junk on occasion when I start eating terrible again after another failed diet attempt. I have noticed that my kid's appetites are getting bigger and I haven't been telling them no on seconds. They see Mom getting more food and they want more too. It is fact that your kids do pick up your habits and do what they see and what they are taught.

I just recently took my 9 year old in for a check up and he is about 5-10 lbs overweight, the doctor says that nothing he can't grow into and did seem to be worried about it. I almost broke down crying... I thought to myself what are you teaching these kids? My son the last couple months has been self conscious about the way he looks, he made a comment about how he was getting fat. I can tell his weight is starting to bother him more and more. I am just so ashamed of what kind of habits I have been teaching my kids and I refuse to let them follow my path. My weight has been bothering me more and more and is now affecting my children so that why I have decided on WLS.

So from now on my entire family is going to start a new path... Smaller portions, healthier choices, and exercise! I am so excited about this new path, it may be bumpy at first but I know we will make together one step at a time:) So be sure to remember as you are changing your habits don't forget about those loved ones that may need a little help with changing theirs as well. This sleeve I believe is going to help me be the person I have always wanted to be but most importantly I think it's going to help me be the wife and mother I need to be!

teaching my kids and I refuse to let them follow my path

cdunn

good for you about recognizing/ knowing to continue/improve on cooking more proper foods for the kids/family

becoming a better model for your kids et al to follow

they won't see those large portions being eaten by mom hopefully pre WLS & definitely post op

i can see B) you are a smart "cookie" :D

keep up the good work, and yes, the kids should/will follow your healthier footsteps

good luck with WLS

To get your kids excited about change in food choices, Kids love the books "eat this, not that". ....I believe it is the title. There are restaurant and fast food ones. Snacks and foods at home. The author also now does a food show on TV if you want to look it up on the internet, if it is available in your area. REALLY great ideas and even young ones will like to look at it. I just watched some of it yesterday and it inspired and taught me even more new ways to eat/ prepare better foods post op.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
