Dr Visits- did you know there are no fat Pow?

Recommended Posts

Please do report her file a grievance. I wish more patients would do that and we could finally get rid of these crappy nurses.

What a ridiculous statement...almost like she doesn't have coherent thoughts. She made the leap from POWs lose weight due to not enough food, ergo, anyone can do it. It was rude, thoughtless, and a little nuts. On what planet is a statement like that helpful? I'd report her to the doc, on the record, then she will remember exactly what she said. I suspect she won't learn much though, sadly people like that just are that way and feel entitled to spread their venom under the guise of "helping". There was nothing you could have said or done.

I agree with others, if you can, do her bosses a favour and give them evidence to support either sacking her or starting a performance management process. This woman needs to learn, maybe the hard way, this behaviour is NOT acceptable. She acted as if a 'mean girl' and a bully. She abused her power by giving an unsolicited personal opinion which she had no right to voice in her work role. She delivered her statement, when she had you captive, belittled and demeaned you, then went about her job all self important and sanctimonious, as if nothing had happened, most likely knowing full well how hurtful she'd been. Actually I feel sorry for her, how unhappy she must be to be so mean - a prisoner of her own inner war - must be eh, probs why she's so skinny! Cracking myself up now ( aka laughing at own joke) Sending love and light to you from Australia (ps. We have mean girls here too!)

I get stuck working with these nasty people and the bosses can't get rid of them because nobody ever reports them officially.

POW? The only way I know to define that is prisoners of war. Is there another meaning I don't know about?

Amanda,

The nurse meant it as Prisoner of War.. She was saying that since they are prisoners, they can only eat what they get, if anything...(she was telling Bella, that if she doesn't eat she won't be heavy).

I definitely would report her. Stuff like this makes me so mad!!! Prejudice against the overweight is so common and people need to be held accountable. They think it's okay so say something so offensive to us but would they say something equally offensive/hurtful to someone about their race, disability, etc.? (I guess some would) Most would think twice.

I would have told her "You know, I will lose weight, but I feel sorry for you because there is no surgery in the world to make you less of a b**ch!"

The only way I could think to define POW was prisoners if war... But knowing that I thought, there could be no way the nurse meant that. That is too crass and absolutely horrific. I'm sorry you had to deal with such cruelty, OP.

I am so saddened to hear someone said such a thing. I would report the nurse. Fat shaming is unacceptable. Please take a stand.

Yes, I have to agree she meant it as a Prisoner of War. Which truely appauled me and I was in shock with her rash explanation. This isnt the first time I have been subjected to such rude undercurrent of obesity prejudice. It goes on far to much for any of us to admit, that is why I got in to my car and cried. Then my song came on "What doesnt kill you makes you stronger" by Kelly Clarkson. And that line in the song just makes me want to fight for my health and leave the foolishness of behind me. I am not by any means going to accept her foolishness as my way of life.

Thank you all for being so supportive!

big hugz

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
