I am 2 weeks post0op, did anyone not have any restriction? I clled the doctor and they said that this is normal. There is nothing in my band so my stomach is back to were it was before the surgery. I am a little frustrated b/c I can eat like I never had the surgery. I had restriction the first week after surgery but then it went away. I get my first fill 1/10. Please did anyone have this? Am I abnormal???

Hi,

You're not alone, I have no restriction either - I was told to eat Soups etc till my first fill! but found no restriction after three weeks then I could eat the same as before the op, the hunger increased at this time too.

I was told to wait 3 months post op for a fill but I got my appointment in today and it's not till the end APR :cry don't know how I'm gonna cope but for now I'm trying the Atkins diet - it's helping with the hunger and it's finally got the scales moving again.

Good luck with your first fill - I'm jealous ;-)

Yvonne

What your feeling is absolutely normal. Most people feel a bit of restriction immediately following their surgery due to the swelling from the surgery itself. However, once that swelling goes down, you pretty much feel like you did prior to getting the band. Right now is a time for healing, not losing weight. The band really isn't designed to work without having a fill, although it does with a few, very rare people. However, once you get your fill and reach proper restriction (which may and probably will take more than one fill) you will definitely notice the difference and you will begin dropping the pounds.

I was starving 2 weeks post op. You are not abnormal at all. I went for my first fill on Thursday and I feel restriction. It's almost like it was right after surgery when I didn't want to eat much of anything. I just hope it doesn't wear off next week. 1/10 is right around the corner, let us know how you do.

Did anyone get their banding done in Mexico? If so where at? If you did how was your experiance? And how did you find a place or Dr near your home to do your fills?

Thanks, this is going to be quite the experience for my husband and I as we are going to go through it together.

lovabully-there are threads on here about the dr's in Mexico. I went to Dr. Ortiz and had a great experience.

Bexleygal...I have no restriction either, however I experience pain with certian foods. I am phoning tomorrow to see if I can get a fill ASAP. I feel your pain and frustration. I am trying to do as much right as I can with diet and exercise until fill day. Hang in there...we will get through this together!

Add to that, I think I have PMS...burst out crying on the treadmill today becuase I was feeling like I did something wrong. I really appreciate the encouraging posts here. Thanksl

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
