Artificial sweeteners and Health

Recommended Posts

Have you ever tried Stevia? It's an herb that is naturally sweet' date=' and it has 0 calories and 0 carbs, so it is a great substitute for artificial sweeteners. You can buy it at any health food store, and some grocery stores carry it as well with all the other sweeteners.

I usually drink plain Water, but when I want something different, I make myself some iced herb tea- I brew it by the gallon and keep it in the refrigerator, and I sweeten it either with plain sugar or honey. My favorite flavors of herb tea are Red Zinger and any kind of mint.[/quote']

I will use stevia only if it is not another artificial sweetener. Even though it is plant based, it would seem a lot of processing is required. What do you think?

Oh fiddle when you have it figured out let me know!!

I quit all sugars real and artificial in all foods 1 year before surgery...

Well you know what happens in this surgery everything has fake sugar in it, so I feel like I am back at square one.

I say that because I am drinking flavored water drops everyday and I just can't bring myself to drink plain Water.< /p>

I just tried some true lime and put 1 packet in 30 oz? Is this sound like the right ratio of true lime to Water? It was a little weak, but maybe that is how it is supposed to taste. How much true lime do you mix into water, you true lime experts? :)

I think it's supposed to be for a 16.9 oz bottle, but I usually add it to 24 or 32 oz...I'm weird and like the flavor weak.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
