8 week stall has become rapid gain. HELP!

Hi everyone. I have what I can only describe as a heartbreaking situation with the scale right now. I was at 182.5 yesterday, and 185 today. This evening when I checked in (because I was freaking out) I saw 188.5 on the scale. I know, I know, it's insane to check so frequently, but I'm having a bit of a panic attack. How in God's name am I piling on weight like this?

I haven't started the exercise regimen yet because I had a lot of problems with energy and dehydration. I'm 8 weeks out as of this past Thursday.

Can anyone shed some light onto what is happening to me?

My calories are between 700-900 daily.

Also, I'm a social person and please don't crucify me for it, but I have a couple drinks now and then.

The past few days I've had trouble holding solids and some acid issues have returned as well. So really, not a lot of food intake. Hence the question: WHAT THE HECK IS HAPPENING HERE?

Thanks for any help, insight, etc.

I'm at rock bottom right now, I have to be honest.

I'm not going to crucify you....only you can do that to yourself! ;-) But I would say, that the alcohol is packing on pounds. It has a lot of calories. So partake in what you want to but try to keep it real & expect a weight gain....once you stop, I'd think that the weight would fall back off? I wasn't a drinker from the get-go so my problem will be Pasta, not booze. :-( Good luck to you! It's hard to get into a new routine....I know. Just to not be tempted with what my family has been eating for dinner, I don't sit at the table with them right now till I get it all under control.

It's normal to have weight fluctuations and you will almost always weigh more at night than in the AM. I weigh myself once a day, same time, same level of nudity and log it. I then weigh myself a million more times a day just to see. It doesn't make me crazy, but if it makes you so, don't do it.

You may be seeing Water weight, your period may be about to start, it could be that you were dehydrated one day or ate too much salt (again with the Water weight). There are tons of variables that will make you fluctuate from day to day so weigh if you must (I must) but look at your weekly or bi weekly trend, not your daily trend.

Are you logging everything you eat? Even the drinks? If you are staying within your guidelines, you will lose weight. Be patient. It's hard, but it's doable.

Thanks for the answers, I can't describe how much it helps to hear. I'm trying not to fall apart right now. This past week I did drink a good amount, but I was down a fews days later-- this current gain came out of nowhere and it just has me completely in misery. I get so nervous when I have trouble keeping anything down and then while that's happening my weight climbs? I'm completely flummoxed.

First of all, it's just about physically impossible to gain that much actual weight in a day. So at least some of that is Water. Whether you were dehydrated before and have returned to normal or whether your hydration was good and you are retaining too much Water is a question you can answer.

I'm not going to crucify, but think long and hard about what you are doing to yourself if you are drinking while you are having problems with acid reflux, energy and dehydration. If you are not seeing a counselor, I recommend it. A counselor can help you identify food issues you didn't even know you had and help you come up with strategies to deal with them.

Measure your foods and your liquid intake over the next few days. Go for a walk. Preferably outdoors because the fresh air and scenery will help you clear your mind. Measuring, tracking, and following my Dr's plan are what got me to goal. It can work for you too!

Please be very careful with the alcohol. I know everyone's doc and nut give out different guidelines but I am pretty certain that this early on alcohol can put us at risk for ulcers. I know all to well the call of our forbidden temptations but we really must take care our stomachs and heed the warnings (heartburn, discomfort, etc)

I know the drinking isn't smart, it was a habit that developed when I previously had a lap-band and couldn't hold foods at all. I threw up at least 6 times a day for 3 years and drinking eased the misery and depression that came with that. This is a new beginning and I do not handle things that way anymore. It's a habit I'm kicking and now a once in a while thing. The band was removed my emergency surgery last summer when so much scar tissue had built up that I could not hold down my own saliva. After a 100-calorie diet for a year with inexplicable regain, I decided on the sleeve for salvation.

It's not an excuse, just a bit of an explanation so I don't look like such an ass. I never had a food addiction, never overate. I gained steadily on a 1000-1200 calorie/day diet through my teens and twenties until I hit 320 lbs and was finally banded. My thyroid responded to nothing else and my metabolic rate was royally screwed up, which accounted for that ridiculous lifelong gain.

This looked like the answer, something I could meet halfway. I still believe in it, but I'm crushed right now.

I just noticed that you started at a 31 BMI and already down to a 27! At such a low BMI it might take a little more work to get it off..

At this point not only is alcohol bad for you, it's empty calories, push your Protein and Water and exercise and things will go fine.

It's normal to gain. If you are losing, losing, losing, and have a high day, you gain. It is Water usually. If you are following the diet and doing well, then your fluctuations in weight will be Water only. If you don't eat much your body panics. Where is your water intake?! Are you going to eat again?! It's not smart enough to know that you're feeling poor and will eat the next couple days so it holds on to all that water in hopes that it will keep you from dehydrating.

This is NORMAL. i gained between 3-5 pounds every once in a while and I would lose it again. No big deal.

I drink occasionally. When I drink, I retain AT LEAST 1 pound the next day. I just know it's coming and prepare myself mentally. It disappears again.

Just follow your diet, it will pick back up.

You might want to get your BP checked, I have BP issues and weigh myself everyday, I am on meds.... and I do retain Water, I gain 2 to 3 pounds everyday, and somehow magically lose it while I sleep.... if I were ever to gain 5lbs in one day I am to go to the doctor..... but yes everyday up 2 or 3.... and it just idssapates overnight.... where does it go?

I am about where you are ... (8 weeks out) and I have gained 2 - 3 pounds this week. I have drank an enormous amount of liquids - due to the heat and I work outdoors. I totally expect to wake up one morning and be back down. My daily calorie intake is between 800 - 1000.

Maybe the alcohol is irritating your stomach. This happened to me with coffee yesterday.

Hide the scale and don't look at it for a while. It's obviously getting into your head, and that's no good!!

Thanks everyone, I'm back on track diet & lifestyle wise and hopefully the scale will follow. All I can do now is pray!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
