Feeling pins & needles in legs when touched

Recommended Posts

My husband has been helping me up & down on the lousy soft low couch we have & each time he touches my legs, they hurt as if there are pins & needles being stuck in my legs. I did the search bar looking for leg pain but no one has described what my legs feel like? Has anyone else gone thru this?? If so, what is it? I should walk more & will do so right now....how much walking do you suggest? Each time I get up to go to the bathroom or kitchen or whatever, I take a few laps around my house but then I'm back on my couch. I don't like being a couch potato either but my meds make me sleepy & weak so I just want to sleep my incision pains away.

Any suggestions or theory on my pins & needles legs?

I haven't seen anyone else mention this. I suggest calling the surgeon's office to ask about it.

I have been on the phone with many diff doctors since I posted & they want to send me in for a doppler on my legs. I just can't get in till tomorrow or Monday unless I go thru emergency. I don't think it's a blood clot so not too worried. Even the doc never heard of what I am experiencing. Only me!

Could it be from sciatica pain caused by pinched nerves in back? I struggled with this all the time when heavier and it mostly had to do with ergonomics of sitting in a bad posture all day, day after day, year after year for my computer work. Since you mention you are sitting on a low couch, it is also possible that your legs are bent at an acute angle and they are " falling asleep", leading to the pins and needles sensations in the legs. If neither of those, I would get the advice of your doctor (PCP or surgeon). These are just my theories; hope they help in some way.

Thank you Fiddleman. Doc mentioned the same thing...pinched nerve from back. I don't know if I have that but it was the same answer the Bariatric Doc said. I just wonder if that were the case, wouldn't it have hurt before? I do have a lousy back tho, due to arthritis. I guess I'll find out tomorrow....the doc on call sent in a script for me to have a doppler done on my legs to check for blood clots. I just hate running up an insurance tab. I really don't think it's a blood clot but I'm not a professional. I guess it's best to be on the safe side.

The nurse from my PCP's office thought it could be nerve pain from my Type 2 diabetes. I've been testing normal for the past 2 years & even without my Glumetza pill, at the hospital my blood sugar tested at 104 so that was good. I doubt it's that either. I guess the medical field is pretty much just process of elimination....

You definitely want to rule out a blood clot. Anytime there is anything going on with your legs after surgery they need to be checked out. I would go to the ER just to be safe.

I had a very similar experience for about 2 weeks after my surgery. My calf, right foot, and toes were numb and tingly. I had a Doppler during my hospital stay as soon as I mentioned leg discomfort. I believe it was due to my sciatic nerve and the way we are laying during surgery. I've also seen other posts from people that have experienced the same numbness and tingling sensation in their legs, so don't feel alone.

Good luck and keep us posted.

On and by the way, a blood clot was ruled out, but my surgeon was quick to order the test just to be safe.

I think you jennybittyboo & Fiddleman were right cause my back is bothering me too. How in the world do they have you laying on the surgery table?? Anyone know? Anyway, just to be on the safe side, I did have the doppler done on both my legs yesterday morning & all is well in regards to no blood clots. I guess I'll just wait it out for now...as long as it's nothing serious, I'll be okay. I have an old achy body now so don't expect to bounce back as I did in my 20's or even 30's anymore. :( Thankfully, I'm not pushing up daisy's tho! :D

I have pins and needles in both my feet! It kept me up every night. I'm 3 weeks out and I had it from the start. I was borderline type 2 and now off metformin with normal blood sugar. I think it's neuropathy. My diabetic dad had it also. I started wearing magnets on my ankles and it is a thousand times better. I can barely feel it now!! Worth a try!

I have been diagnosed with neuropathy after my gallbladder surgery. I was put on neurontin and it is horrible! Causing me to gain weight. Where do you get your magnets?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
