It's all over the map. I felt OK, but was very tired! All I can say is try to have a seat available, work in the shade and DO NOT get dehydrated! Best of luck, coach!

It all depends on you. Everyone heals differently. I agree, if you do coach make sure you is not in the sun and have a bottle of Water or Protein Drink with you. Personally for me five days out I was still feeling bad. I didn't drive until seven days out. Good luck and take care.

I second arts' advice...I felt ok but didn't have a lot of energy to get out and about...I recall that around that time I had someone drive me to the store, and that little outing tired me out...I was also still trying to adjust to getting in the required Protein and liquids...physically, though, I had very little discomfort and pain--was blessed in that regard...best to you!

I felt terrible and could not have imagined doing anything much, so i'm always so envious when I hear of people feeling great a few days out. I had another major surgery a few years back and was on my feet in no time. As the others have said, it is hard to predict and everyone is different. I wish you a speedy recovery! :-)

Surgery is a trauma to your body, but we all heal differently. You need to take it easy, make sure sutures are healing well. If you can coach and just sit around for an hour or so, maybe, but I highly recommend you find someone to help or cancel.

I was still in the hospital due to complications. If you can set up a sub just in case, I'd recommend that. This coming from someone who other than excess weight, had a clean bill of health (no co-morbs) prior to surgery.

You just never know.

I'm doing great at 10 weeks post options. No complications, getting in all my Water and Protein. So far there's been nothing my stomach can't handle in small portions. I'm exercising most days and losing weight (in kind of a stair step pattern. ) I've lost 36 lbs since surgery and 77 lbs so far this year. Went from a size 28 to a size 20. I feel great.

What was your complications?

I had the surgery but the staple line at the top was closed up too tight. I could not even pass liquid. So back in they went to open me back up. During the repair, I woke up and started vomiting. So they had to come back out and put me back under...then they went back in to repair all the damage I did from the vomiting. Beyond painful!

In the hospital for 5 whole days. Couldn't even do liquids by mouth for almost a week. Out of work for a month.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
