missmachine 100 Posted July 19, 2013 I started at 250, currently 185. I have not lost any weight in 9 months. All loss was in the first 5 months after sleeve surgery. I was just approved to have revision surgery. I'm hoping this works, because I really feel like a failure. Has anyone else had the bypass after the sleeve? PEvette 297 Posted July 19, 2013 I'm curious as to how you and your doctor made the decision for revision to bypass?? I'm a revision from lapband to sleeve....and I too lost the bulk of my weight the first 6 months....now I'm 13 months post op and I've lost 13 pounds in the last 7 months..... I'm praying that I'm a slow loser, but my doctor wants to see me again in sept to see if I've lost any more weight, but my scale hasn't budged in weeks
missmachine 100 Posted July 19, 2013 My first surgery was in Mexico when I didn't have insurance. I had the sleeve done there. I am getting the bypass done here in the US. As far as revision goes if I already have the sleeve done it doesn't make sense to do the band or anything else but the bypass. I need the malabsorption as well as the restriction. No game 14,437 Posted July 19, 2013 I think for most of us the biggest loss of weight happens in the first six months... After that its blood, sweat and tears. I'm still fighting, but honestly a solid 2 pound a month loss is a good loss for me. Please don't think you are a failure this is is a great surgery but a hit or miss surgery for some. Has the doctor said why he thinks the bypass will be better for you?
missmachine 100 Posted July 19, 2013 My Dr has actually said that he has performed a lot of sleeve surgeries, and that the bypass holds up better long-term. He stated that after 5 years, sleeve patients are starting to regain their weight and he thinks that like the band, it will ultimately fail in comparison to the bypass as a viable solution to obesity. This really scared me and made me want the bypass as well. I never want to go back to how I was. 1 No game reacted to this

I mean when you eat dense Protein? Because I know eating junky food I can eat a LOT now much more so than in the beginning. Why is it you want the malabsorption? missmachine 100 Posted July 19, 2013 I have a ton of restriction still. I can eat only about 1/3 what I used to eat pre-op. I do find that I tend to graze though, or I'll get hungry again in a short while after eating (like an hour or two).
missmachine 100 Posted July 19, 2013 And I want the malabsorption because I believe it will cause me to lose more weight...??
No game 14,437 Posted July 19, 2013 And I want the malabsorption because I believe it will cause me to lose more weight...?? I'm going to tackle this one first. I met a woman last week at a support meeting she was pre op and was going back an forth between the sleeve and bypass... I ask why and she said she wanted the malabsorption too. To help her when she messes up and eats the wrong foods... There where some bypass people there and they said you can still eat around the bypass and not lose weight. Just like we can eat around the sleeve!

I suffer from food addiction and sometimes the pain doesn't even stop me It's something I have to actively battle everyday. I get full too and then hungry again in a couple of hours especially if I don't eat Protein heavy foods.
Reigo 111 Posted July 19, 2013 There is another person who just posted about going from sleeve to DS surgery because she put back on almost 40 pounds taking her from 130 to 170. She said she's eating 1500 calories a day and gaining. I am sure many people have been in your shoes. Good luck with whatever you decide.
missmachine 100 Posted July 19, 2013 I can only hope that after 2 surgeries, it will be enough to kick my ass into gear. I realize that surgery is a tool, but if I had willpower In the 1st place I wouldn't need surgery. Plus what he said about the vsg long term makes me want a better (stronger) surgery. No game 14,437 Posted July 19, 2013 I think it works both ways there is a woman here that has the sleeve and her daughter has the bypass, and has gained her weight back and wishes she could convert... None of these are miracles or cures even.. 3 LMFAO575, Marivdb and MeMeMEEE reacted to this
Reigo 111 Posted July 19, 2013 I work with 2 bypass people who are 5+ years out. One is large 250-280 and walks slow and pained carrying all her weight. She had gotten down to a size 4 but put back on over 100 pounds. She had the most restrictive surgery option possible. The other lady also gained back 30-40 pounds and is still a size 16/18. She's much thinner than she was but she's not thin. She had so many problems post surgery. She was so sick all the time. Everything made her ill. I know others who had bypass and kept the weight off
missmachine 100 Posted July 19, 2013 I asked about the DS & doc said that the surgery is not commonly performed in the US and insurance companies are not covering it yet. Also, it's for more severe obesity than what I am.
