Why oh why did I do this to myself?

Recommended Posts

Surgery was Tues (2 days ago). Just got home from the hospital. This is definitely the most painful surgery I've ever had (the lapband 4 yrs ago was easy peasy). Dr did say he had to really work on getting the band out - it had started growing into my stomach. I was on IV Dialudid till this morning when they switched me to liquid lortab. Yesterday I was definitely have "buyers remorse". Wondering why I caused myself all this pain? For 45 lbs? My bmi is only 28 now but to have my insurance cover any other procedure, it had to be done at the same time as the band came out.

When does everything I swallow not feel like lava? Can't even drink anything from the frig cold. Has to be rm temp - including my Protein Shakes.< /p>

Back to bed now. Been up for the whole 3 hr ride home...

Boy, I don't even know what to say. I am 2 wks out from my sleeve surgery and just had my first post op Doctor's appt. I told him that I was at the stage of "buyer's remorse" but, to ask me again in 6 months. I know why I did it and during this 2 wks there were times - I had no clue. But, I would never do this for 45 lbs. It must have been really important to you - so keep remembering that.

Sorry you feel bad. I was sleeved Tuesday also. I have the left side pain that is talked about here but all other pain is more discomfort. I didn't have a lapband, i did have hiatal hernia. Swallowing e en teenie amts puts air in my sleeve that i have to work to get out. I haven't eaten since last Sunday evening and I'm not hungry. Through the first day pain until now I have not regretted it. I will bet you that when you beat the nausea you will not have buyers remorse.

.

Lets think about this. I'm sure it was for reasons other than the 45 pounds. It's to get & keep you healthier, right? & to get off the other 73. There's more to this journey. So, focus on that & you'll be ok. In a few weeks or so, you'll be so glad you did this.

Hang in there.

I wish I was u right now. I can't even imagine having to go back to work (I don't) anytime soon. Not sure how anyone does it. From most entries I read on here, people dont have as much pain as I'm having (could be related to the band removal). When I had my band, I could've gone back to work in a week. Right now I can't imagine what it will feel like to actually drink something not luke warm.

Good luck to you

Hang in there u guys it's gets better every day. I had my surgery 5-22-13 I feel great now. I can eat anything. I have lots of energy. I workout. I love my sleeve. I am loosing weight every day. I have lost 35 lbs. it's hard right at first but once u can have soft foods ur fine. I went back to work after 12 days and have felt fine since then. I did go to bed early those first weeks back to work. I am so happy with my sleeve. I would do it over again in a heartbeat. I could never lose any weight before now I lose everyday almost. I don't really eat very much I stay within 600-800 cal a day get all my Water in and get 60-80 Protein in. Haven't lost any hair yet but that usually comes in 3 months out. No loose skin. Been lifting weights and doing toning exercises for 30 min a day. Walking, swimming, bike riding or some kind of cardio for at least 30 min a day. Still not hungry. Most days have to force myself to eat. Other days I want to eat. I usually have a Premier Protein bar for Breakfast can't finish it. Have the rest at 11. At 12:30 have lunch which is usually a salad with ham and real crumbled bacon cheese and light dressing. 3:00 have a string cheese. dinner is protein and veg. I would suggest u join myfitnesspal or somewhere u can log ur food where others can see it. It helps. Also join a support group. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
