kidney problems after surgery?

Recommended Posts

anyone diagnosed with any kind of kidney problems since having surgery?

ive had a uti every month since my surgery in December.

I just also had a 24 Hour urine done and it showed decreased kindey filtration and function. I was referrred to nephrology, just havent had my appointment yet.

This just worries me because im so young and do not want to be put on more medications.

So if anyone knows anything about this please share your knowledge! :)

thanks!!

I have had chronic kidney stones since my surgery in Feb and never had them before. I had a chronic UTI that persisted for almost 3 months and required several rounds of antibiotics to get rid of after surgery (I have only ever had one other UTI in my life--theory is that it was caused by the catheter). I still have to do my 24-hr urine test (I am never home for 24 hrs in a row!). Make sure you get your Calcium checked too. My dr recommends drinking enough Water to output 100 oz of urine a day, so that means at least 120 oz of water to consume. I usually get in 80 to 120 but 120 is really difficult. I try for at least 100. I do think it helps. I noticed I'm more prone to the stones when I get dehydrated and it's SO easy to get dehydrated--like if I go an hour or two without drinking, it happens. I think your body just needs more Fluid when you are losing weight. Good luck with your issues. Please post an update. Hope you feel better soon.

I was in the ER earlier this week for a suspected kidney stone and kidney infection, as well as dehydration. The ER doctor gave me the impression it is very common after losing a lot of weight. He said the key is to keep very hydrated. I keep track and do well at getting 64 oz of Fluid and he said that just isn't enough for my body right now, especially when it's hot out.

I actually have a kidney disease (pre surgery) called IGA Nephropathy. Basically the filters in my kidney don't work properly therefor I spill Protein into my urine. More than likely you will just be told to maintain your blood pressure and eat healthy to keep your kidney function at 100%...losing weight is critical, my nephrologist was very excited about me having this surgery. It is a manageable disease and I do get Uti's pretty frequently and have become septic twice from them. Just take really good care of yourself, and if you suspect a UTI, get it treated immediately!!! Good luck, all will be fine I'm sure :)

My husband has IGA nephoprathy. He's had 2 kidney transplants. If you're not getting all your fluids, your creatinine will go up. What's your creatinine if you done mind me asking?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
