roundy 14 Posted July 18, 2013 Hello everyone, I am 4 days out o surgery and i am having really pad chest/stomach pain when swallowing fluids. Can anyone tell me about how long this will last? When i drink something it goes down and then feels like it is stopping midway down, then it makes a noise the air starts to come up. When the air is coming up that is where the pain is happening. I have to sit straight up and try to burp and if i burp the pain is gone but only until the next sip. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Vivian19 4 Posted July 18, 2013 Also make sure you are not taking a mouthful....small sips 5 minutes apart. I hope you feel better soon.
MIJourney 490 Posted July 18, 2013 This too shall pass. It gradually goes away. Just make sure sips are tiny for now. I can drink pretty much as before surgery now with the exception of Water but hope that improves soon. And that's not due to pain, just a heavy feeling in my sleeve. 2 Fixerupper and Molly3 reacted to this
Fixerupper 335 Posted July 18, 2013 For some reason plain Water is more difficult in the beginning. Try asking some crystal light, sf kool aid, or mio and see if that helps. I also mix in some Syntrax Nectars crystal sky flavor for Protein. It blends with the tastes from the other stuff and it doesn't change the texture because it's not thick. If you don't have one yet pick up a Blender Bottle.< /p>
Fixerupper 335 Posted July 18, 2013 At eight weeks out I can drink Water easily but it was hard in the beginning. 1 Molly3 reacted to this

Jello in any amount is fine doesn't hurt at all. I have been drinking room temperature Powerade zero for a taste change. It is just hard for me to get my fluids an Protein down because i know how bad it going to hurt. I do have a Blender Bottle and i use it for every Protein shake i have. 1 Fixerupper reacted to this

chibabyy 77 Posted July 18, 2013 This stage will pass but will take a few more weeks. Something else might even come up but they will all disappear. I know cos I thought that I was going to die after surgery and it seems like every week something else pops up. I'm 6weeks out and no more pain except when I drink too much Water or Protein Shake. Don't worry, you will start to feel better in a few weeks but no one could say exactly how long not even your doctors cos everyone is different. I called my doctors office so much that they knew my number whenever I call. Good luck.
finallyhealthy 0 Posted July 18, 2013 Remember to drink small sips and think about the end result!
