I can't imagine them replacing a smoothie as the ones we'd enjoy as kids at the throwback diner my dad took us to were far too sweet and were made with flavored syrups. I always got chocolate egg creams. Those didn't have any eggs (or cream) at all - it was the seltzer Water and milk combo that made that lovely foam on top.
