Autumnlover 5 Posted July 17, 2013 I'm about 8 weeks post surgery, and I just don't enjoy food any more. I still enjoy the taste of things, but I don't really take any enjoyment from eating. Eating feels more like something that I have to do rather than something that I want to do. Which is good in that it helps with the loosing weight part of things, but I never thought I'd have to force myself to eat. Anyone else have the same issue? 4 neneh_vsg, skrubabilen, Blessedfun and 1 other reacted to this
No game 14,437 Posted July 17, 2013 I think most of us go through this. For me it was around the same time. food became a chore and really wasn't as good as it sounded. It goes away in do time. You will enjoy and want to eat again, but if course it will still be in smaller amounts. 2 KatInFL and nsquared reacted to this
Bufflehead 6,358 Posted July 17, 2013 I'm the same way (4 weeks out). I eat because it's on my schedule of things to do for the day and I know I need to in order to get in my Protein etc. But it isn't anything I look forward to or particularly enjoy. If you told me I couldn't eat for the next three days I don't think I would really care. I know this will change though!
gmanbat 5,889 Posted July 18, 2013 Interesting topic. I used to dream about foods both day and night. My life pretty much revolved around my taste buds and pleasing my stomach. The approach of the grim reaper got my attention and I made the change with the sleeve and a commitment to change of mind and heart. I still enjoy food but it has dropped down far on my list of passions. I am working hard now shoveling and wheelbarrowing in the Florida heat with 20-30 year olds, ( I am 64), and my main need for food is keeping strength in my body and recovering from the torture I put my body through. I worked out for a year as I lost my weight and this job is working out times ten. Enjoying food is only as important as you make it. It is just not a big deal to me anymore. I am more interested in being in the top shape a man of my age can manage. If I were in my 20's my muscles would be huge by now, instead they are rock hard but smaller. If it weren't for the excess skin I would be a cut, slim, ripped body with a wrinkle-faced head on it. 1 Gojogo reacted to this
Beach Lover 1,084 Posted July 18, 2013 I think we all go through this but it will get better. If you go on www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com you can get some good food ideas and recipes. This will help. I found it hard to figure out what to eat. Hang in there!!
Momonanomo 534 Posted July 18, 2013 Yep I'm 8 weeks out today, and that is EXACTLY how I would describe it now -- I just don't enjoy eating. It feels very bizarre too, because my ENTIRE frickin life I adored eating. So....I'm actually quite happy because that's what I signed up for. I didn't want food to rule me like that one second more. But it is a very strange thing to experience......this "meh" feeling about food. So unlike me! So Laura-ven says the enjoyment will come back.........I just don't want it to ever ever ever be like it was before! 2 Gojogo and Beach Lover reacted to this
SerendipityHappens 1,594 Posted July 18, 2013 This is one topic that is completely foreign to me.. I still love EVERYTHING about food.. Shopping for it, preparing it, eating it... the vibrant colors of the produce, the interesting textures/colors of bags and bags of legumes and grains, the smell of sweating onions with garlic and ginger..... ZOMG! When I'm not eating food or thinking about what I'm going to cook, I'm watching food porn. If anything I enjoy food EVEN MORE than pre-sleeve because I can eat so little of it, I try to make it more special. Also the little bit of food tends to be a bit more calorie rich. Tonight's two teeny tiny chicken fajitas on homemade 4" round corn tortillas were SMOTHERED in an entire ounce of cheese. So rich and decadent... and completely within my calories! I love that I'm able to focus on the tastes now rather than worrying about how to fill my enormous belly! Yes, I do still eat things like a Protein shake or half a cup of cottage cheese just to get in my Protein and I guess I feel "neutral" about these meals but I try to make sure that at least one of my daily meals is something exciting to my palate. 3 kim.cooper, Gojogo and Beach Lover reacted to this

Rubydoobie 12 Posted July 18, 2013 I'm also 8 weeks out - loving the weight loss but not enjoying eating. Like others have said my life used to be centered around food & now I just don't care much.....I use fitness pal.com to track my calories/carbs/proteins but I find it a daily "chore" to eat. That being said, I'm very happy that I had the surgery; look forward to a healthier life!
Lannie2202 25 Posted July 18, 2013 I feel the same. I've been grabbing Protein Shakes and yogurt mostly because it is easy and I know it will sit fine in my stomach. I really need to work on a meal plan...
Autumnlover 5 Posted July 18, 2013 I feel the same. I've been grabbing Protein shakes and yogurt mostly because it is easy and I know it will sit fine in my stomach. I really need to work on a meal plan... Same here. It seems like everything that I eat makes me fee 'urpy'. That's the only word I can use to describe it. Things such as yogurt and milk, and the occasional skinny cow fudge bar are the things that seem to settle in my stomach best. Don't get me wrong, I'm so very thankful that my life doesn't revolve around food any longer, and I'm so thankful that I had the surgery. It's just such an odd thing to find myself no longer enjoying something I used to enjoy too much. If that makes sense?
suejersey 263 Posted July 18, 2013 I definitely feel the same way. I enjoy the taste but it has become more of an essential part of life instead of one of my main focuses. Kind of sad and kind of great.
buplee 556 Posted July 18, 2013 I have also gone through that. I used to be a foodie (which was part of the problem, (we have traveled abroad and have eaten at 5 star restaurants) now I don't really care what I eat anymore. I won't eat high calorie items or carbs but in terms of Proteins it doesn't matter to me. Eating at 5 months post-op is not as much of a chore but is no longer my life's work. Hang in there and good luck.
ribearty 544 Posted July 20, 2013 I have a question. I have read various posts that food you used to like presurgery, you do not after surgery. Has anyone found a food that they did not care for prior to surgery, but now like? Thank you.
SerendipityHappens 1,594 Posted July 20, 2013 I have a question. I have read various posts that food you used to like presurgery, you do not after surgery. Has anyone found a food that they did not care for prior to surgery, but now like? Thank you. Franks Red Hot.... Prior to being sleeved I always had a bottle in the fridge but never used it except if I was making buffalo chicken.. and even then I'd hold out a few pieces for myself without any sauce on it BUT.......Since being sleeved I finally understand their slogan. Seriously, I put that S%^T on EVERYTHING!.
