Sooo I keep reading how many of you only eat 600-800 cals per day, but seem to get in 80-100 gms of Protein, HOW??? Today I have had part of a leftover salad with an extra 2oz of turkey, a pc of cheese for a snack, and I'm going to have a Premiere Protein Shake. I am already at 457 calories... Are people counting net calories maybe, and subtracting exercise, or do I just not get it???

I make sure that I get my Protein in, usually 70 grams and never count my calories. I don't eat carbs or at least not many but I figure if you are eating Protein you are fine. I am almost 8 weeks post op and down 30 lbs.

How far out are you? My doc said for the first 2 months he doesn't count calories. Just make sure I'm getting in enough protein/water.

One of my biggest Protein boosts is the nectar Fuzzy Navel drink I have in the morning. It's 23g of protein and only 100 calories.

I am 11 1/2 weeks out. I know a lot of the Protein Drinks are crazy with calories, that is why I have been adding in the Premiere drink, it is 30 gm Protein, and 160 cal. But I hate the taste. Some days I feel like I should go on shakes until I lose the weight....

It's funny because my surgeon wants me to eat my protein as soon as I can and only do shakes if i have to. I'm 2 weeks post op, but already been put on soft/mushy foods.

eggs, tuna, meat, cheese and premier Protein shakes. That's about all I eat/drink. I wouldn't be able to get in my 80 gram average protein without the extra Protein Shake. Are you on MFP?

I only do the Protein Shake in the morning. I am almost 6 weeks out and don't really like having chicken or turkey for Breakfast. Can't do eggs because they make me nauseous so this is really my only breakfast option for now.

I can hardly get in more than 500 calories a day but I do get 50-65g of Protein. I drink Premier Protein shakes which are good and have 30g. You'd be surprised how few calories meat and cheese have, which is really all I eat. Also Protein Bars low in calories taste pretty good. Quest bars are my favorite.

I can't speak for others but I count total carbs, not just net carbs. Trust me, my body doesn't care about the Fiber with the carbs...LOL

I certainly don't manage 100 g of protein a day; I just can't eat enough to get that in! My sleeve buddy has had luck getting in that much protein with the help of two Protein drinks a day, at 35 g of protein each. I believe they are less than 200 calories, as well, but can't recall off the top of my head.

My goal is 75 g of protein a day right now, at 14 weeks post-op, and I'm usually successful. I struggle to get 750 calories a day. I haven't yet had salad because I just don't have room for it and my protein.

Today, I've had a Protein Drink, 2 slices of bacon, 6 oz of shrimp (I can eat the most volume of seafood compared to anything else), and a string cheese for 73 g of protein and 558 calories. I will probably have another shake or cheese stick or something, to get up to 75 g of protein.

I'm going to have to change something soon, though, either calories or protein, because I feel like I've had to fight for the latest 5 lbs I've lost.

I know I LOVE shrimp, I just worry about the amount of mercury I'm ingesting! LOL No shrimp in the house this week, maybe that is my problem. That and I think I need to cut back my portions, but then I worry I will be under Protein Amounts again....

Hi Kat and Chinamama, I have discovered that for ME (and I can't say how it is for others) that I HAVE to have my protein percentage be at 50% or higher in comparison to my carbs and fat. When it is below 50% I stall. When it is above 50%, I lose. I can track this on MFP with their "pie chart" button. Just my two cents :-)

Thanks! My carbs are very low... I try to keep them around 5% of my total caloric intake. I haven't tracked my percentage of Protein intake, so I will look at that.

I eat so much seafood lately.... I'm not even sure how much mercury I could be ingesting. LOL I think shrimp are fairly low on the mercury scale but certain fish can be high. I should look it up, since I am not really tolerating chicken and my kid doesnt eat red meat at all. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
