Notice how I cropped out the top of my head so you can see the bald spots? :D

I did the same thing with my ears! :)

For OP, I have told folks in my real life -- when I hear that 'warning' tone creep into the conversation -- that for me, it's like the accommodations I made for my students in the classroom with a learning disability. It levels the playing field and gives them a more reasonable chance at success.

That's what I hope the sleeve does for me. I have 76 lbs to lose to be at the very top of my BMI range for average. That's a lot of excess to be carrying around, but it I less than some. It's still too much for my body, my frame, my health.

It's your decision, and your body. Do your research and be at peace with your decision, and learn as much as you can from those with more experience and knowledge on this board. :)

I cannot tell you personal results as I am still pre-op, but I have learned through my research that low BMI'ers usually loose their weight slower, are more likely to loose 100% of their excess weight, and it is easier to remain at goal weight long-term.

I have not had my surgery yet, but I can tell you I have yo yo'd soooo much in real life. I want my sleeve as a tool because I've always regained the lost pounds. Dont feel judged.... im just jealous that I have so much further to go than you. Lol.....oh well in two years we will be even steven. Its not the easy way out but it IS a powerful tool.

Thanks all, I'm sorry if I came off snarky; I just don't want to be judged because of a lower BMI even though I am in the 'obese' category and going up.... I have been judged so much for my yo-yo dieting over the years as well as inability to keep my weight off. I have been on RX diet pills for YEARS (which can't be good for my heart) as well as over exercising etc... I can't keep up with the roller coaster. It's physically and emotionally worn me out, as well as being a mother to special needs triplets, plus 3 step children! While my BMI may be low-ish now for WLS, it keeps creeping up. I am doing this now, so that I remain a consistent weight. I need this tool because I can't manage it any other way. My doctor is actually in Dallas not Mexico. But I think this forum is for self pay as well.

I am, just as we all are, looking for acceptance, support and answers on this emotionally trying journey towards greater health.

Being sleeved in two days, and as ready as I will ever be.

I was sleeved March 8th. I was 195 pounds now I am 145 pounds. My goal is 135. I cant remember what my BMI was. Im 5'5. I think everyone who does the surgery should do it cause they want to no matter what the magic Bmi number is. I have been judged by people since my surgery people saying I didnt need it BUT it was my money my body my time. So who cares what people think. I feel amazing and I am more happier then ever!

I was sleeved May 10th (11weeks ago) and my BMI was 31. Started at 202, now 159.4. Goal 130. Down 43 pounds. Just 4 oz. more until I am a NORMAL weight!! I had NUMEROUS people tell me that I didn't need surgery, what did I do that for? I totally agree that it's my business, body, money and time! I am thrilled with results so far!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
