OMG' date=' OMG, OMMMMMMG !!!!

I think you just reached into my brain and pulled out several frustrations that I am havng too! I just didn't have the courage to post them, as I didn;t want to seem like 'negative nelly" when this IS something that I "asked" for!!!

BUT..... and this is a BIG BUT.....

I had NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO F*N CLUE about alllllllllll of the changes that I do NOT like. Allow me to vent:

1. The fact that I will never be able to eat more than a 1/2 to cup of food (maybe thaaaaat's not too bad...LOL)

2. The fact that I will have to FOR.EVER try to get "60-80 g" of Protein EVERY DAY! FOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVER. That is F&& HARD to do

3. That I will probably be constiapted (already had a bout with it, wherein, I wasn't "paying attention" to how long it had been since I went and since I have NEEEEVER been a "go every day" person)..... it was 5 days, I had to give myself a suppository, and I felt like my @hole was being RIPPED in two (felt worse than giving birth, I swear it did!) I am not used to having to take "supplements" to ensure my bowels move......but it seems that NOW,.....NOW...... I will....foreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever. And with alllllll the stuff to keep track of (how much Protein, Vitamins, Calcium, how much liquid i'm imbibing.....) &H!T is HARDER for me on a day to day basis and I haven't even gone back to work!!!! WHat happens when I am "busy" and "forget" to eat..... forget to drink (I have NEVER been a "drink alot of liquid in a day" kinda person)

4. The Vitamins. I was talkign to my 78 yr old mother ( who is and has alwasy been thin....her BIGGEST when I was probably 12 or 13 was a size 14, mostly due to her being "hippy") who takes a PLETHORA of pills every day for everything from estrogen, Calcium, HBP meds, multi Vitamin, Insulin pill.....blah, blah, blah), that it was frustrating to have to "keep up" wth when I can take this.... oh, don't take calcium near the time you take the Vitamin pill......etc". Well, she said " honey.... I have to do the same thing.... I have to remember to eat, watch what I eat, remember to take my pills at certain times", and as much as looooove my mother, I wanted to scream to her:

BUT YOU ARE 78!!!! I AM 42!!!!! I am not an older person! Yet, my "routiine" is that of someone OLD! I did this to make my life simpler, NOT MORE COMPLICATED........ and now I am stuck".

Top that off with the fact that she has NOTHING. TO. DO, but to keep up with vitamin regimens, figure out what to cook on a whim...... I work, have a husband and 9 year old and simply do not HAVE time for more complication! But..... that is my life now.....

I am totally venting..... I hope I feel differently at some point.....

I also feel that NO ONE TOLD ME what I could expect and I have THREE.... THREE friends (not super close friends) who have gone through this and those chicks never told me of allllllllllllllllll the WORK that this entails! (one is 2 years sleeved, one is 1 year and the other is 7 weeks)....... when I asked my 2yr sleeved friend she was kinda like "Ok..... so what do ya wanan know?"....

I hate that damn question...... I DON'T KNOW WHAT I DON'T KNOW!!!! TELL ME EVERYTHING...... and truthfully..... when people say "tell me about the surgery", they want to know the "bad stuff" to expect..... we can allllll see the "good"!!!

But no one, NOT even the one sleeved 7 weeks ago, told me of all the WORK that is now added to my life just to keep LIVIING.

So, again...... i feel like you do..... if i had known this, in THIS depth.... i am pretty sure I would not have done this......

#learningtolivewiththisdecision :([/quote']

Didn't the program and doctor tell you anything. Even at the psych eval they made sure we knew what we were in for in having the procedure done. It's sad to read people did not know what to expect.

I do hope things work out for you. I'm two days out and just happy to drink Water all day. Lol

Okay here comes the unpopular opinion and I'm sure I'll get blasted for it...

WHY THE HELL didn't you do every bit of research you could possibly do before permanently altering your body??? Seriously?? There's 100 other websites just like this one for you to research, there's information EVERYWHERE. What did you think would happen when a surgeon removed 85% of your stomach? Did you expect to eat a cheeseburger and fries a month later? C'mon, you can't blame your surgeon for not telling you that you'll only be able to hold a cup (give or take) of food in your stomach. The average human stomach holds 4-5 cups of food when it's normal size and yours is now 15% of that. Do the math. Really? Really??

And just to clarify, my previous comment was not directed to the person who started this thread, You had a valid question so I hope I didn't offend you with my little rant.

All I will say is....

1. Lottttttttts of empathy for those who have ( i will speak for my "rants") felt any of what I felt. Thanks. It was ex-TREEEEEEEMELY helpful.

2. Hope no one with negative comments eveeeeeeeeer finds themselves in ANY situation where they didnt know every nuance of "what to expect" though they did do research.

spectacular!!

No one said you need to know "every nuance" of what was going to happen to you, but c'mon!

"I had NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO F*$N CLUE about alllllllllll of the changes that I do NOT like. Allow me to vent:

Spend 30 minutes on the internet reading and researching and you would have known all of this well before you made this decision.

I have a feeling when Disco was VENTING that she may have EXAGGERATED that she didn't know about any of these things to expect. You know when you are frustrated or upset or scared it is easy to exaggerate to all or nothing. If you take the vent in that light of exaggeration then you see it for what it is, a VENT, frustration, fear, disappointment, regret. And many, many people have that after the surgery.

I agree with you. We all do it. I think as the pain and frustration take over we draw a total blank on what was told or said to us. As thing progress in a more positive light the fog will lift and things will become clearer.

This post serves as a reason, people considering surgery should do their research and ask lots of questions. It is not the responsibility of anyone to tell you everything, it is up to you the patient to inquire. I also firmly believe anyone considering surgery needs to go through more psychological counseling to deal with their respective food issues, than a rubber stamp appointment from someone who just wants a fee.

I'm not coming down on anyone with regrets, but wish everyone would go to the support groups pre-op, watch videos of the procedure posted by medical professionals, and research, research, research, and how about this- do more research.

I agree with you totally. My psych eval was no joke, they stressed that I under stood what would happen to my body and my ideas of how I used food, comfort, depression etc.

Research is key. It do also think folks get so caught in the pain of change and the frustration drive all thoughts and what was told to them is pushed to the back of their minds.

I actually joined VSG way before I had the surgery so that I could educate myself about what I was getting myself into. I met a friend who was to be sleeved before me and after her surgery she told me some of the things that she was experiencing but I had already read about it on here. Some of the things that you might experience may scare the **** out of you if you are not prepared for them.

All of the psych evals are a joke. I went through 4 months of therapy to work out how my life with food would change post-op.

Mine definitely was. It was literally five minutes of rather irrelevant questioning. Luckily I'm of sound mind and I did my research, among other things.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
