Surgery on July 30th

Recommended Posts

Well now the time is flying by and surgery will be here before you know it. All my physicals and stuff are done and all is well. So why am I so nervous still? I know I am making a the very best decision and I am so happy about it but my nerves are still frazzled. I am wishing I had more confidence in my post surgery self! Anyone else ever feel like this?

I too am having surgery on the 30th, and yes, I get nervous. I know that after I have this surgery (well, after the first 2 wks post-op) I will not regret it. This will be the best thing we have ever done for ourselves.

Hi, My surgery is on July 30 too. I'm a nervous wreck!

I'm really struggling with the pre-surgery liquid diet and feel pretty depressed about it. I'm having the surgery to insure that my senior years won't be full of sickness and pain, but even that thought doesn't stop me from wanting to eat all the time. When I'm anxious, I eat, so this has been super hard. And its only day 3 of the diet!

I actually had second thoughts about the surgery this morning when I was forcing myself to drink...I guess this is part of the process of preparing for what life will be like for 8 weeks post-op. And so the surgeon will know that I can comply with the diet. (OMG)

I'm going to look at all of the pretty clothes in my closet I cannot wear anymore...

Good Luck!

Thanks ladies! I will be thinking of you on the 30th! Nice to know I am not the only one going through it on that day! We should start our own little support group... We could call it the July 30 Girls! What do u think about it? I really need some support and would love to have it from people at the exact stage as me :)

Sure JillP! I'm in. I am struggling so much right now with the pre-op diet. Have to go to the grocer today (OMG) to get some clear broth and other items. I hope you are doing well. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
