miss_lalaaa 2 Posted July 17, 2013 I was sleeved July 10th & i just can't seem to find the nutrition i need. I am dying on all liquids but i definitely want to be successful so therefore i won't mess up, i know i have a long journey. Any advice?
TexasRed1978 17 Posted July 17, 2013 I think it's helpful to remember why you did this. When I needed to restart my dedication over the last 3 weeks I googled articles related to childhood obesity. My biggest reason, among many, to get this surgery is so that I will learn healthy eating and cooking habits and pass them on to my 15 month old son. Being an overweight kid is hard and I don't want him to go through that. 1 Camella reacted to this
miss_lalaaa 2 Posted July 17, 2013 Well yes i've never been skinny., in fact i've always struggled with my weight. I think i just need to find a Protein Shake i like. Also, i guess im feeling defeated because I'm on all liquids & have been for 2 weeks... i know it doesn't seem like a lot. But for someone that's never done it...its emotional. Arts137 1,811 Posted July 17, 2013 There are a LOT of posts on the subject. Go to various websites (I use Unjury) and get their sample packs!!! AND feeling mentally "blah" is pretty common after the surgery, BUT IT DOES NOT LAST... hang in there, little one!
Brownrek 21 Posted July 17, 2013 I'm just starting puree today. I had a very hard time with the Protein Shakes and found the ones I could tolerate before surgery I didn't like at all and the one I liked the least was better after surgery. I found the premeir shakes from either costco or BJ's easiest to get down, plus you get the most Protein from the least amount of ounces! Every 2 hours I would try to get in 4 ounces. Breaking it down like that was easier for me. I kept telling myself this was only a short time in my life and it would be worth it but still did a lot of crying at the end of the day. Everyone said each day gets a little better and it really did. I am 23 pounds lighter since starting the preop phase and already have so much more energy! I had surgery on July 3rd and by the 10th day I felt like a new person so hang in for just a few more days. 1 Bridget312001 reacted to this
MichiganChic 3,262 Posted July 17, 2013 The first few weeks are the worst, so just know this is normal and you will get past it. Since you asked, my advice is to just to tough it out and do what you are supposed to. It's really rewarding to see that you CAN do this, you CAN stick to the program. When I saw that I could stick to it, it gave me a sense of hope that I could continue, and then the weight comes off, and I got even more motivated. Success begets success. I agree about finding a shake you like, it makes a difference. I tried several kinds and thought I'd never make it the first couple of weeks, the taste and smell of them made me so nauseous. I finally found the Premier Protein shakes at costco, and I'm still drinking one a day for Breakfast. It was a lifesaver for me. Hope you are feeling better soon! 1 Bridget312001 reacted to this
Djstola 26 Posted July 17, 2013 Everything you're feeling is completely normal. I also found Premier Protein for breakfast to be a total lifesaver. It might take about six weeks for you to feel better. You had major surgery. Your insides are swollen and need to heal. Mentally you just changed everything about how you will eat...forever. Be patient with yourself and it will get better. I'm about ten weeks out now and can finally, honestly, say I don't regret the surgery. Six weeks ago I was miserable. Just keep looking for liquids that make you feel good. Also I found taking Pepcid 2 times a day really helped. Hang in there

Brownrek 21 Posted July 17, 2013 Also, I found snack pack sugar free caramel pudding. I would thin a couple spoonfuls with some chocolote Protein Shake and that gave a nice flavor. Plus I could eat it with a spoon instead of drinking! Funny how such a little thing made a big difference.
miss_lalaaa 2 Posted July 17, 2013 Omg everyone, thank you so much! I have also heard premier was good. I did however try a shake called boost & my surgeon said that is not the drink for me. YOU ALL HAVE GIVEN ME HOPE, & IT FEELS GREAT TO KNOW, I'M NOT ALONE. THANKS AGAIN
Indigo1991 1,612 Posted July 17, 2013 You are not alone, we have all been where you are. There's a phrase you will see repeatedly on this site that you should bear in mind - this too will pass. You will get thru this, purée and soft foods and all of this will just be a memory. Good luck!
