Hey Mookie, I got a call from Dr.Cobourn today. He's going to be training a doc in St.Albert on the 27th of Jan and wanted to know if I could make it to meet him and other bandsters in the area. Did you get such a call? You are having surgery with Dr. Cobourn right? I think I'm gonna go check it out.

St Albert!!!!! I live near a St Albert Ontario, The best cheese curds you have ever had. So you mean I can have a bag of cheese curds and a fill all the same day. Life is gooood!!!

Ohhhh Mookie, I would love to see your gut! Ha Ha Ha. coffee would be great! So this doc he's training is in St.Albert, a family doctor. I hope it works out cause I don't really want to go to Calary for fills if I don't have to. E-mail me your tele # and we'll get in touch before th 27th.

About your pre-op....so are the shakes really that disgusting?? I'm very taste sensitive. I hope I can make it through those 2 weeks.

I found the shakes are better w/out lots of ice. The vanilla ones are truly awful but the chocolate ones whipped in a blender with less Water turn into kind of like a mouse/foam. It's the only way I can get them down. The few fruits you are allowed, I ate warmed up in the micro sans Optifast. I didn't want to waste a delicious strawberry in that stuff. 3/4 of a cup of frozen strawberries are 45 cals. factor that in with your total calories while on the pre-op. Oh ya, I've almost finished an entire bottle of Olive juice. No olives just the juice, that helped too. I'm more of a savoury person so I really missed salty stuff.

I tell ya man, put in the flavoured extracts into your Optifast and it will be vewy vewy vewy tasty~!

(note: I did not do the Optifast for my pre-op diet - just yougurt - but I did go thru the whole optifast program several yrs ago....2 weeks is nothin!!).

The extract flavours are KEY

Mookie - you're weird. Less ice?! BLEH! Just plug your nose and down it! I was unfortunate to ONLY get vanilla.... you can imagine. I added this Caramel DaVinci Syrup to mine, as well as Chai tea (among lots of other experiements), and I swear, I'll never be able to have those things again. I made a Protein shake yesterday, and added a touch of that syrup, and GROSS! I drank it cause I'm cheap and didn't want to waste it.

The olive juice... I could see myself doing it. So no judgement there. And I did the same thing with all these berries I went out and bought for my shakes. Adding the little bit that you're allowed, you can't even taste it when mixed with the shake, so I just smooshed 'em into my face.

So no, Argo there is no way anyone could have made the connection.

Good. So I'm not totally stupid! THAT would be funny. Feel free to laugh at things know one knows about, anytime. ;)

Love ya, Argon! Bought some delicious Fiji Water, if you’re a Water aficionado, you’ll love this water. It really is the best of the “flat” waters. I looked for Protein water and they didn’t have any. Maybe in Alberta we’re not supposed to be sacrilegious and only Beef Protein in allowed. Albertans, care to comment? Any of you found it?

Just got back from my prep Shopper's Drug Mart trip. No liquid adult Gravol? No liquid adult Tylenol? I'm pretty pissed. I have a very high drug tolerance (no comment) and these beginner drugs just will not do nor work. I'd have to guzzle a whole bottle as 1 dose. I'm also a big barfer, I can barf at the drop of a hat (this goes back to my side show freak days...guess the fat lady's weight and watch her barf at the drop of a hat!). I read that Yoda got some extra anti-nausea meds while under anesthetic; I'll have to request that. When I had my breast reduction a few years ago, I barfed for days after. Does the clinic give you a prescription for pain prior to the surgery or after? I hope I can have that filled before I go in, I’d hate to stand around in some pharmacy after surgery.

And in closing…

:drama:

I’d like to thank God, my parents and all the little people who have supported me…wait that’s my Oscar speech.

Try again…

I’d like to thank my Dogs, my Cats and my LapBand Pals for their support, kind words, and hilarious anecdotes while I freaked out over this choice. (In that order, sorry guys…pets always come first.

Oh ya...thanks to my better half for buying me a “Coolster Tumbler-No-Spout Spill-Proof Cup for Bigger Kids” and making my Optifasts when I couldn’t bring myself to blend another cup of the vial liquid.

Love,

Mookie

Yes, Dr. Cobourn will prescribe to you a huge botle of liquid codiene. I only took it once the first night, just to make sure I had a good sleep. Unfortunately, a few weeks later I threw the whole bottle out thinking I didnt need it. Oh Man, what an idiot I was!!! I could have used the 'self induced down time' a few times since then. KEEP THE BOTTLE!!!!

Hey Mooks,

You should ask for them to have the prescription ready for you BEFORE you get ready for surgery, or even the day before, so you don't have to worry about getting it filled after surgery (or whos gonna do it while you're 'in'?)

What time is your surgery? If it's later in the morning, maybe they could have it ready for you, and you could run down to the pharmacy, I think it's in the same building, and get that before you get prepped.

Get some chewable Gravol... that's just as good. They also have 'thinstrips' that dissolve on your tongue.

o yeah man, I agree with Cloe....definitely keep your prescribed pain meds for future use if you don't use it all. I was prescribed demerol and had (and still have) lots left over....it comes in real handy on the days I have reallllllly bad cramps!!! Sublime!

Oh, also....I took my pain meds post -op whether I thought I needed it or not....just take it anyways......why have pain if you don't need to? Don't be a hero! Even doing that, I still have lots left over!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
