Hi all!!

My name is Nelly and I'm 24 yrs old. I had my first consultation July 3rd and surgery is expected for February 10. My insurance is requiring a 6 month medically supervised diet. Starting weight is 214 and goal weight is 120. Im only 4 feet 11 inches. I have always been on the thicker side, 145 when I got married, but it was always blamed on being a Latina with curves. After I got married the weight just started going up. My daughter is 4 yrs old now and I had a c-section with her and one month later my gallbladder removed. After I stopped breast feeding the weight seemed to double up again. I tried many methods and was even working out 2 hrs a day for 3 months and only loosing a few pounds. I knew about surgery since my SIL got the lapband but it seemed too extreme for me. Until recently I felt fine but lately EVERYTHING hurts. Knees, hips, ankles, back and my arms fall asleep right away! Realizing I'm carrying OVER 100 of excess weight opened my eyes. I just can't wait to be fit.I want this not only for myself but for my daughter. I want to be an example to her I don't ever want her to feel the way it feels to be obese. And I don't even want to think about being pregnant and this heavy. I want to be a fit mom! To take my kids on hikes and bike rides and run with them instead of being stuck at home because I have no energy after work. I'm really glad my doctor told me about this site! It makes me feel not so alone anymore since I haven't told anyone but my husband and best friend. My sisters are too judgmental and my mom would go nuts!!! I really can't wait for these 6 months to be over!!!!!

I could have written this myself! After breastfeeding I shot back up quick :(. My daughter is 2.5. I don't want to be the "fat" mom forever. Good luck mama!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
