How many times to eat a day

Recommended Posts

Do you guys still have to have your Protein Shakes daily? I am starting to look at what my doctor gave me to do and I must say I am kind of frustrated. Its 4 wks clear liquid-no sugar no caffine, then 2 wks pureed food, 2 wks soft food, and finally solid food. But I am so HUNGRY! I have snuck in some yogurt just to try to make it through the day but I am pretty active and I burn it up pretty fast. I still have to have 2 shakes a day that are 30gms Protein each. How fast did it take you guys to actually eat? Would it be terrible if I ate some eggs or something soft even though its been like 2 wks? THanks!

By 2 weeks post op, I was eating solid foods. I just had to be careful to chew really well, and take very small bites. My doctor is far less restrictive than most about what you can and can't eat after surgery--after about 5 days of liquids, then another 5 of mushies, he says to go ahead and try things. I know some people are afraid to try anything solid too soon, for fear of stretching their band, but I don't think that happened to me. I have had a good steady weight loss, and I am going for my first fill on Monday, but have not been starving or anything. I think if I had stretched my band, I would be a lot hungrier than I am now. I seriously don't think a scrambled egg or two is going to hurt you.

I think we are asked to have only 3 meals no Snacks is to shrink your stomack as well as get the best results - to stay motivated. Guess what? It works:) !

As far as eating too soon after band - you risk PB hence slippage. It's been nearly 6 weeks and I still cannot eat eggs?? I wonder why it is hard to consume? It is soft.... Anyone else have that problem?:phanvan

They say to stop eating as soon as you start to feel full, but sometimes it seems as though I feel full and hungry at the same time! My little stomach feels full, but the rest of it is still rumbling--does that make sense?:)

I have this same feeling sometimes. That my little tummy is full but my regular tummy is growling. Very odd how that happens.

Weird- I crave eggs and eat them a couple times a week. Usually i take 3 egg whites and blend them with a little soy milk and salsa. It's pretty creamy, light and fluffy so it goes down great. Adding milk seems to be the key to break up the more rubbery texture of egg whites alone. Occasionally I'll use one whole egg and a white.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
