Okay im only 8 days post op .

I've made a post recently saying how I just wanna chug but I can't . I'm not chugging however I do find myself taking pretty big gulps but I can't help it I'm just so thirsty and I don't realize . I'm trying not to make a habit of it of course but it doesn't phase me , I get no pain or any other problems , this scares me and makes me think that my stomach is too big or something . I wish I could just get in the right amount of ounces in whatever quantities I wanted . Is this normal to be able to drink that much at one time ?

The amount you can get in at one time is related to the amount of swelling you have inside. Some people don't have much swelling and therefore don't have problems getting their fluids in. The amount of Fluid you can drink is not related to your stomach being to big because fluid doesn't stay in the stomach it just washes through and down into the intestines. You should drink as much as you comfortably can and not worry about it at this point. I was personally drinking well over my 60 oz by day 8 and was drinking relatively fast at that. Good Luck.

I could drink 'normally' about a week post surgery. The first week I just sipped. I was not only full fast but a little nervous to drink too fast.

When I work out, I can take a big-ish drink from my Water bottle. Most of the time, it feels fine, only sometimes it feels like too much.

I think it is because it's Water and moves quickly thru my stomach. food is 4-6 oz and I am FULL. The 6 oz is stuff like yogurt or cottage cheese. Denser food like chicken or meat and I am FULL at 4 oz.

Good luck! You have just begun your wonderful journey to health.

So it doesn't really matter the size gulps I drink it how much I drink in a sitting just as long as it doesn't bother me ? Even before surgery I have always been constantly thirsty and especially with the weather and my job I tend to drink a lot at once and it was just a little nerve racking lol

Yep that's what I have found and I am now 7 months out and drinking a minimum of 128 oz a day and have not had any problems.

At least half cup of liquids per hour gets you to the 64 ounce requirement.

I had the same fear...liquids were no problem 2 days post op. I just knew something was wrong! LOL

Even tolerated pureed foods quite well. It wasn't until I started on mushy foods that I felt somewhat restricted. Now (10 weeks out), I can still handle liquids just fine, but 4-5 ounces of anything of substance is my limit...which is a good thing!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
