List Of Foods LBanders Are Not Supposed To Eat?

Recommended Posts

I am a lapband hopeful (marchhhhhh1!!!)

and I was going through a lot of the threads here -- trying to see what are the restrictions - but im getting pulled back and forth.

Are there any foods we ARNT supposed to eat?

Ive read on several sites that bread, rice and popcorn are no nos as well as soda. But here Ive read that you guys do eat this stuff. Can I get a list of all the food no-no's and possibly the consequences of eating the items.

THANKS! that would be so great.

There really aren't any "NO" foods, because everyone can tolerate different things. And unlike the RNY where there are things that no one can eat, with the band the only limitations are what you personally have problems with. And the only real way to make that list is to try foods and see how you do with them.

I tolerate anything I've tried so far. Some things hurt me (scrambled eggs, applesauce, bananas) but I can still eat them if I need to - just going to have a bit of discomfort.

I don't drink carbonated beverages because my surgeon suggested avoiding them for maximum results. And because I wasn't much of a soda drinker anyway. I know people whose surgeon told them it's fine and they drink soda every day.

I CAN eat bread, rice, and popcorn - I just try not to because I do make an effort to limit my carb intake. And when I eat them I go slow, even if I feel OK to go faster, because I'm aware that they can cause problems/do in others.

I have on days and off days with chicken. Also with some vegetables, anything stringy gets me---stringy meats (roast or pulled pork-chicken) stringy veggies-celery and some lettuces if i do not chew really well.

I can do popcorn if I chew really well, but no bread it sits like a ton of bricks, it will go down---but NOT WELL :)

I also avoid all carbonated beverages as instructed by my surgeon.

It is totally unique to each individual but most bandsters do have problems with bread and dry meats. I personally cannot eat most breads anymore. I am still able to eat rice though. Sometimes it can be uncomfortable.

As other's have said, it varies a lot.

I personally can't do white bread or rolls. White rice is out, unless it's sushi, that I can do. chicken breast is tough if it's at all dry. I haven't tried Pasta, so I'm not sure. The main consequence is that this stuff gets stuck, and leads to a PB. Not fun!
