I see so many people enjoying chili during the puréed phase and I'm going to be there next week and I LOVE chili so I'm thinking this would be great for me. Are there any certain kinds of chili people buy or are you all just making homemade? I typically make homemade but I don't know how healthy it is, ground beef, 3 kinds of Beans with chili sauce, some tomatoes, some chili seasonings and basically that's it. Just wondering if I should whip up my own chili from scratch or if there are canned (eek scary to me) chili that doesn't taste like dog food!!!!

Use a recipe analyzer to find out the nutrition of your own chili! I happen to love Hormel's chili (turkey no beans), and it's high in protein!

Make your own less sodium & fat . I use ground sirloin for mine fry it up drain any fat off then pat with paper towel to get any more fat off! I have also used ground turkey or chicken and have done the same procedure. In beginning could eat 1/4 c now 1/2 cup is good! Enjoy it!

Early out I ate the Hormel Turkey Chili and when cleared for beef at 6 weeks, the Dennison's Fat Free Chili (formerly known as 98% fat free). I also make my own, heavy on the meat so it is Protein dense.

I make an easy chili for my family:

1pound ground turkey

1 red or yellow bell pepper chopped

1 green bell pepper chopped

1onion chopped

1 small can Tomato paste

1 can diced tomatoes

2 cans black Beans

1 can chicken stock

a handful of chili powder to taste And garlic powder, salt, pepper..or if I'm feeling even more lazy I just use a packet of chili spices and disregard the directions on it!

Brown the turkey in a big pot Dump the rest in and cook until peppers are tender :)

Of course if your on purée you will have to blend your portion...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
