September Sleevers...! Come on in and chat!

Recommended Posts

As for myself I found that the first few days were the hardest. I drank a lot of Water and tried to get as much Protein as I could in what I was getting. Syntrax Nectar is pretty good I might add. If I got hunger pains I would sip a cup of hot tea or broth to quiet the old stomach down again. I found an unflavored Protein Powder that I can add a scoop to juices or water too.

Hey! Where did you get the unflavored protein powder from?

Hi -

I start a 2-week liquid diet on September 2 and will have an Endoscopy and the Pre-op Blood Work done on September 12.

My Lapband-to-Sleeve revision is scheduled for September 16 in Houston with Dr. Sheldon Yu of Texas Laparoscopic Consultants.

I'm looking forward to getting back on track and losing the rest of my excess weight.

Best wishes to everyone!

My surgery date is September 30th in Ypsilanti' date=' MI.

who else is in september? what are your thoughts? are you excited??!!! Nervous?[/quote']

Surgery is set for 9/10. About a week ago I started trying to convince myself this is the day I will stop this crazy idea, get my **** together, and do this on my own even though I know the facts and I can look back and see a lifetime food addiction - knowing that despite great successes in other parts of my life i have never managed my health, image, or lifestyle. In the quite of my mind I question myself - are you ready to radically change your anatomy? This is the scared, self incriminating me that has always felt shame in my inability to master my own body. But there is another side too.

I made the decision to pursue this option in May I admit I did not act with any urgency just made appointments as they came up. I was surprised my insurance company approved the surgery in August. Again I made appointments when I got to it. And now it is happening and all that it is and means is here in front of me. I started the full liquid diet 8 days ago. I found I did we'll when I spaced the Protein out every 4 hours and got hungry and unhappy when I didn't follow the plan exactly. And through this process I have been able to acknowledge a painful truth. For the first time in my life I must act in my own self interest - I must move myself to the front of the line. It's a new feeling but it is empowering and I like it.

When I think of living longer I feel grateful there is something that can help me do that. I was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer at age 42. Now I am three years post chemo . if ever there was a time to get my **** together you would think cancer would do it. but as we all know food addictions are self destructive and with all addictions its about how we see ourselves on the inside. I wear the consequences of my addiction with no way to mask it or hide from it. Driven by the decision to give myself the best chance possible to fight a reoccurrence I am committed to having this surgery. I know this tool will aid me in that journey. I am excited about what becomes possible for me - bike riding, hiking, kayaking, riding a roller coaster, walking the streets of Paris all day, shooting hoops with my daughter, taking a morning run, swimming in the ocean, shopping in NY, taking planes to great places, fitting into theater seats, spending a day at the museum and so much more.

So birdmadgirl, you said it all in fewer words. Yeah I'm excited and nervous. Be well and have a good surgery!

I got my ubflavored Protein powder from unjury.com. It has 20 grams of protein, 100 calories and 0 carbs. I haven't tried it yet. I ordered the sample pack. I mixed the chocolate with coffe and it wasn't bad. I bought some Isopure at GNC. Not bad. 40 grams of protein in 20 oz.. Not to bad. My Dr has me on Clear Liquids for 2 weeks after surgery. Then full liquids for 2 weeks. Then yogurt, stage 1 and2 baby food consistency for 2 weeks. Then ground meet, and flakey fish for 2 weeks. Very strick diet compaerd to other sleevers.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
