September Sleevers...! Come on in and chat!

Recommended Posts

I' was sleeved on 9/24. I had a slow first week including a day of crying and total breakdown. I mistakenly watched the food Channel without any thought to what that was going to do to my mind.

Once I realized I was sabotaging my recovery I nipped the tv and started doing projects- work a little, rest a little. It has worked for me!

I didn't have any drains so I can't imagine how much fun that would have been but I totally relate to laying on my right side. I still use a pillow to help support the incisions. The left ones were doozies - I never even had pain from any of the ones on the left.

My surgeon does five incisions but I got lucky with an extra one due to a large hiatal hernia that required two staples to repair!

I used to watch the food channels. I almost went there today, but avoided it because I've been missing my love....food.... Tremendously!

food commercials are bad enough for me to watch I don't know how anyone can torture themselves with the food channel.

I posted a topic asking others when did they start working out after surgery and I got different times and ideas. I have too much energy to just walk! So I started out with my walking dvd that I used prior to surgery. I flew through the 1st 15mins with a breeze. Some of the different moves I avoided so I won't put to much pressure on my belly. I'm going to wait until tomorrow to add on and additional 15mins and see how my body reacts overnight. But I will do 20mins moderate walking on my treadmill later on since it was raining outside. I'm taking it easy and listening to my body. Not bending at all yet, but I find myself squatting alot if I have to pick something up off the floor. :)

I guess when the clinic said I would have to make life changes they included the food Channel. And I agree- there should be laws against them! They nipped cigarette commercials didn't they?

Walking is about the only thing you can and should do right after surgery. Give your body time to heal. You may think you are doing fine, but it was a major surgery, My Dr said no exercise except walking for 6 weeks. Also dont worry about gaining after your surgery, you are going to be on a roller coaster you will lose, you will gain, you will stay the same for weeks and months at a time. Be patient, drink your fluids, and yes it will be a struggle, do the best you can do. congrats to the newbies... holler if I can help. And I would like to thank the ones that said I have helped them, that is what I am here for.

Thanks! It was discouraging to only lose 2 lbs after surgery. My doc said not to worry, I would lose. Plus I lost 27 before surgery. I also

Pressure myself to bounce back, but my body is telling me what to do right now. :-/

Has anyone else been moody? I'm almost 3 weeks post op and I'm just moody all the time. Everything annoys me right now! I'm hateful all the time - it's driving me nuts! Is this normal? :(

I'm in pain again. So needless to say it's made me bitchy. I also am pissed too, but just honoring my feelings. We've given up a lot and I think it's normal to be emotional.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
