Ok...so I challenged my Dietician with the varying Pre-Op diets. She tells me that she just recently attended a class on the latest studies for the diet. Apparently those who do the 14 day all liquid diet have better surgery results. I didn't like that answer. I spoke to the medical assistant at my surgeons office. She said if I get super desperate to chew on something....chew on a small slice of turkey or chicken.

What I am finding out about myself is.....the addiction to food has controlled me for years. This is no joke. I decided today...that I can do this and I WILL! I will get through 11 days with success. I made a choice after 5 years of deliberating doing the surgery. I am in control of me.

I'm finding that I am very aware of my body and how I am feeling. I amLory expressing exactly how I feel and not stuffing an emotion with a bag of chips. Anyway....thanks for reading. I wish everyone their health goal dreams come true! :-)

Lory, thank you for posting this. I am a food addict too and my goal is to express and work through how I feel versus drowning it out with a heaping portion of something sweet or salty. I am 6 days post surgery and yesterday was really hard. I was stressi g over work and school and money and wanted desperately wanted to eat to cope but couldn't. I am going to work on my head issues and take every advantage of the vsg to prevent this

Well I'm always hear if you need support. Sounds like we both could use it. I went to the store today and stocked up on a bunch of sugar free Popsicles and Jello. I found 45g Protein whey supplement I'm going to take to my dietician tomorrow.

One thing I know for sure at this point is I am in control of my actions. It's also ok to cry or feel instead of stuffing it with sweets and sugars as I've done for years. I took time off of work to get my mind ready for this huge change and I would say the biggest change in my life besides having kids.

I'm here for you!:-)

I know the liquid diet is a very daunting prospect. However, you can do it. I didn't think I would be able to do it and whenever I thought I was just going to go crazy with hunger I buckled down and had a hot cup of Decaf tea or bullion and got through it. The reasons for the pre op diet varies from practice to practice. Mine was to shrink my liver and decrease some of the abdominal fat that could cause complications during the surgery. Honestly, I wanted to improve my chances of success by doing anything I could.

Thank you soooo much! I'm doing everything I can to be resolute. After 5 years of debating this...I want to do this right. Thanks for the supportive message.

It's good to know there are other women out there taking care of themselves. I'm 43, kids grown, and I'm finally taking care of me. It's crazy how taking time off feels so weird. 25 years of working and raising my kids.....this is awkward. My surgery isn the 28th. It can't come soon enough. :-). I wish you both the best!!!

Puked blood? Why? Is that something that might happen to me?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
