September Sleevers...! Come on in and chat!

Recommended Posts

I'm back' date=' my surgery on Tuesday went very well according to Dr. Reich. 2-weeks on the pre-op diet reduced my liver's size making the operation a "breeze". Woke up in recovery without a foley and was admitted to recovery by 5 o'clock. Needless to say I was still groggy from the anesthesia and NPO. My friendly morphine drip took over pain management as the anesthesia wore off.

Wednesday morning I passed my barium swallow x-ray leak test and was granted liquids. Parched, I attacked the "broth" like a man lost in the desert - drinking too much too soon and paying the pain price. Having learned my lesson, I slowed down on the liquids to 3 oz/hr. My morphine drip was still there to take the EDGE off my pain and lull me to sleep. I also has a fast flowing saline IV pumping me full to avoid dehydration.

Thursday morning came bright and early. My friendly morphine drip and IV went back to storage and I prepared for discharge. My doctor's team briefed me on post-op meds for indigestion, nausea, and my old meds. I was ready to take my new stomach home and begin my re-training. Eventually I was able to get to sleep, using a small pillow to support my abdomen.

This morning I awoke with limited gas (CO2) pains and began day-1 of my clear liquid diet despite the growling from down below. I have started doing my walking laps to take care of the associated uncomfortable digestion that feels like my stomach is churning. No regrets and have misplaced 2-3 pounds - likely the 80% of my stomach that was removed on Tuesday.

All in all, I have no regrets, so far, in taking the leap to have a sleeve.

Note: My Doctor told me that my pre-op dieting was directly responsible for my operation being less complicated and likely to speed up my recovery!!![/quote']

This is great news! I'm happy to hear everything went so well for you. I start my liquid diet on Monday and this is just what I need to hear to keep me motivated!

I'm September 16th, too, and nervous and excited all at once! I woke up at 2AM holding my stomach and saying to myself, "You're about to have 85 percent of your stomach removed. Have you lost your damn mind?"

Thank you for your info about your sleeve surgery. And that you followed your pre- op diet correctly and had good results with surgery and will have a speedy recovery. That gives me a great sense of hope as I have been eating smaller portions for the past 2 weeks and my pre- op diet starts this Monday.

My surgeon is not requiring any diet before the surgery but my friend and I are taking it upon ourselves to go liquid two days before. Not only will that get us started with getting used to drinking, not chewing, and also empty our insides for the surgery (I have a mostly unsubstantiated fear of pooping -peeing too, but mostly the pooping -during the surgery. I think I am especially sensitive because I work where I am having it done)

I'm super excited to be on the path to better health, physically and emotionally. I am also scared to pieces of possible complications.

I had my surgery Thursday sept 5th with Dr. Hamilton. Him and the staff at the Bariatric center of Kansas City were amazing. I was sore but I expected that and it's bearable with pain meds and no regrets!

I was sleeved 9/3. Didn't get off to a great start in the hospital, which I attribute to not getting pain meds on a regular basis. Was doing well enough to be discharged Thursday evening. At the time of discharge I was up to drinking 3.5oz per hour. My surgeon's plan had me gradually increasing to 8oz/hour by the end if that day. After getting home, everything slowly went down hill. I was stuck taking roxicet for pain instead of Lortab, because I had an allergy to liquid lortab. Roxicet seems very hard on my new tummy. That + nausea not controlled by the zofran led to less liquid intake and more misery. Throwing up recently postop does not feel good. I don't recommend it to anybody. Eventually got a new script for phenergran suppositories which yielded great sleep, but even less liquid intake. Ended up back in the hospital today. It's amazing how crappy dehydration can make you feel. After a couple of bags of fluids in the ER I was beginning to 2nd guess needing to be there. Luckily my wife doesn't have such a short term memory- and insisted that I be admitted. So, now I'm chilling out in the hospital for another day or 2. But, I'm hydrated and feeling much better. And, I get to focus on increasing my liquids by mouth, while getting all my drugs through an IV.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
