Having a hard day... At my boyfriends family BBQ, not feeling comfortable at all, tomorrow is day one of my liquid diet. I'm feeling very anti social and upset. I don't know how to handle this.

Don't beat yourself up. I have found myself to be a little quick to anger the last couple days. Chalking it up to dealing with the nervousness of all the changes coming. I finish all my pre-op appts on Tuesday and then the surgical center will submit my paperwork for approval to my insurance company. Keeping focused on the the step. Just take things one day at a time and you'll get through it!

Hi Kristina,

I have high anxiety going into social setting. I was on YouTube , looking at videos of other people's success. This one guy was on there talking about his process and he recommended a book. It's called "The Emotional First Aid Kit: A practical guide to life after bariatric surgery." This book has opened my eyes to alot of what could possible happen. Things that I should keep in mind and look for in my journey are all brought up in this book! It's a great book to read. I have my surgery on 9/4 and I am better prepared because of this book. It actually put alot in perspective for me. I have friends that is having surgery as well and I recommend this book to them all. I actually give it as a gift to them when I find out that they are having it. It's a reference guide...a darn good one. I think it will help you in those uncomfortable social settings! Good luck in your journey and process.

Will u be on full liquids or shakes/lean meat/veggies? I absolutely dreaded the pre-op diet, I mean hello, I'm having surgery for a reason! You expect me to stick to a pre-op diet? I just set my mind to it & the weight started dropping. I'm on day 7 & I'm down 13 lbs. that got me excited so I'm determined to make it thru! Good Luck!!

I finally told my kids, my son is so positive and supportive my daughter feels like I should try another diet this will be a life change. I have issues with my health insurance from work. Pretty much they have told me do something drastic to bring down your BMI under 40 or you will not be able to afford the insurance or they might drop you. Because of 2014 Obamacare, I was very sick last year with a brain aneurysm, the insurance thinks it was because of being over weight. I think it was from taking 1600 Motrin and I have always had low blood pressure. Oh well, my surgery is scheduled for Sept 4th. UGH I am scared.

My surgery date is September 16! I'm excited and scared and then excited again! I haven't told anyone except my mom (who will watch the kids) about the surgery. I don't want to hear the negatives. Deep down inside I am scared I will be that person who doesn't lose anything and fails. Right now I don't have to do a liquid diet, just clear liquids the day before and 2(!) 10oz bottles of magnesium citrate the afternoon before (this can't be good). Anyone else have to down 2 bottles?

My surgery is th 17th. I'm very excited. I was really scared what people would think. So far I have been pleastly surprised. Everyone I have told is being very supportive. I am selective as to who I tell though. I don't want to hear the horror stories. Kind of like when someone says they're pregnant, someone always has a horror story to tell.

I don't have to do the liquid diet until the day before either. Thank goodness. Good luck to all.

Got the book myself and haven't started reading it yet, been reading Duc Yuong's book. It's a very good book about what to expect with surgery, how to prepare for it and three rules for success. And much more... I get my books on my lap top and iPhone with the Kindle app.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
